I have seen that people are asking what cars the mustang V6 can go against and possibly win. I love statistics and have read about most cars out there. Here is a list of what cars the Mustang V6 3.8 or 3.9 can go against and win or not...
NOT: (NOTE: the RSX and Celica GTS as well as the Eclipse are tuner cars and as such may or may not have performance mods, they also need someone that knows how to use them to their fullest extent to drive, and then they will beat a Mustang V6... The average driver that hasn't race one, usually doesn't have those skills.)
-Acura RSX Type-S with 200+ HP and 165+ Tq
-Toyota Celica GTS with 6 Speed VVTL-i engine...
-Mitsubishi Eclipse 2005+ GT V6 models as well as the SE V6 model
-Nissan Skyline GT-R (if you can find one in the states, don't try it)
-Nissan 350Z and 350Z Roadster (Mods are required for sure)
-Mazda RX8 6 Speed 1.3L Renesis engine with 240+ horsepower (You may win off the line but you will loose if it revs to 8000+ RPMs and gets up to 120 mph or higher...)
-Chevrolet Camaro V6 (with 3.42 OE stock gears)
-Dodge SRT4 Neon (its a neon that is souped up, go figure) (It is beatable if the driver of the Neon doesn't know how to use it)
WIN Against these:
- Acura RSX base models
- Toyota Celica ST and the 2000+ GT models
- Mitsubishi Eclipse Base Models
- Hyundai Tiburon Base models (you will have to work to go against the GT or SE models with their 2.7 L V6 engines and Manual Trannies.)
-Mazda RX8 Sport AT and Sport AT Shinka (this is the weaker Automatic Transmission version of the RX8 and it would be a head to head race with either winning, I experienced that with my Chevrolet Camaro before it got wreaked and I got my 2004 mustang 3.9L...)
I haven't research any other models yet. But if anyone wants to add to this list please do...
You can beat any 1st & 3rd gen eclipse (GSM) w/ v6 and the Tiburon GT. You can take any non AWD 2nd gen.
Drivers race w/ pre 99 GTs.
Drivers race w/ non SRT Crossfires.
All Accords built prior to 2003
All Preludes
All Civics
All 2nd & 3 gen Supras non turbo
All 300 ZXs, non-TT.
Last gen Celica GTSs are drivers races, all other celicas go down
Any MR2 except late 2nd Gen Turbos (may get those, too - they were fast in the day, but what was fast in the late 80s is slow today)
Just about ANY car built from 1972-1994, including many Ferraris, Lotus's, Audis, Maserati BiTurbos, etc. NOT including Grand Nationals, Syclones, Typhoons, and Dodge's Li'l Red Truck.
Most Stealths, 3000GTs, etc.

i was behind a fiero v6 today and i didnt want to take a chance ?? should i have ? would it have been a race ?
if you've got a 99+ he would have had no chance.

You'd definitely be able to walk on the Focus. I'm not sure about the SVT's but I think you could at least match one.
It's a drivers race with the SVT. 5.0 Mustang Mag had the Mustang turning in 0.2 secs faster in the 1/4 mile.

Here's another drivers race would be going against a Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V... Also going against a V6 Camaro, (as a former V6 Camaro Driver (I miss my mara), it can leave you in the dust if you aren't a good driver, if you are someone that just floors your car you will loss.) That's a text book drivers race...

One side benefit of driving the 6 is that there are more competitive cars, and you have to learn technique more than just mashing the pedal.

i belive most of the 3 series if not all BMW is an I6,

THe non-M cars are generally drivers' races, with the exception of the last gen. Forget about the 330 without some pretty good mods.
Forget about the Z8, that's a supercar, I think the z4 got the up-engine from the get go.
318s, 323s, and 325s are fair game.

You can also beat the VW GTI but that's a drivers race though. BMW 325 does 0-60 in 7.5 secs so that may be a driver's race, too. Volvo S60 and Acura TSX and Audi A3 Cadillac CTS (Not the V) and the 2005 BMW Z4 and Lexus IS 250, Mercedes Benz C230 and Audi TT (not sure about it though) are probably easy to beat.
Note: a 1999-2004 Ford Mustang V6 stock setup does 0-60 in about 7.9 secs... The (the new one 2006 model) BMW Z4 does it in 7.2... That is more than a drivers race.
