2001 V6 Mustang Mac vs Flowmaster Cat Back Exhaust? (sound clips inside)
about to buy a cat back exhaust for my stock 2001 v6 and narrowed down to Flowmaster Force II and Mac TK#3849 but having trouble deciding which one to go with. i want whatever is going to be the loudest in idle and acceleration but without being ricey or raspy. Mac has 2.5" tubes with 3" tips and i believe the flows have 2.5" tubes with 2.5" tips. Mac system will cost $330 and flows around $460.
im most likely keeping the stock Ypipe and the car stock after the exhaust and maybe a CAI so X pipe and H pipe clips dont really help. i have some of my favorite sound clips and videos that i found linked below but please post any other clips that you find impressive. also ANYONE that has a mac or flowmaster system on their car ANY input and opinion would be much appreciated.

sound to tell you the truth. i dont really plan on putting any major mods or power adders into it and if i do i could always buy a better system like a magnaflow or borla so for now i just want it to sound loud and good.

the videos i dont know but from the other ones ive heard i assume theyre y pipes because theyre not as loud. my car is going to keep the stock y pipe.. what do you think about the Mac?

MAC has had some quality issues, but they've recently redesigned their exhaust parts. I have no opinion.
Flows have always had a good rep, and a lot of people here use them .. .

yea my brother has mac's on his 00 GT and it sounds really good. I know its a different engine and everything but he said he likes them. Only problem hes had is that they rust on the inside of the tips after a while but everything else is fine. They have a 50,000mile warranty and thats about how much longer id have the car anyway since its up to 59k as of yesterday. I ordered the Mac today after finding a pretty good deal so ill let you know how it turns out in a week or so. Maybe ill get some sound clips up too.
Has anyone here gone with a FULL Mac exhaust? I'm talking about long or short tube headers all the way to the tips? And speaking of long tube headers, is there any difference in sound in comparison to the shorties?
I have a full mac system on my car and i love it. I think the pre 99s sounds better than 99+ with macs, but i think the exact opposite with flomaster. If i had a 99 id run flowmaster, if i had a 94 (like i do) i would run mac. I dont know if theres a difference between short and long headers, mine are short.
I heard a sound clip somewhere(not on here though) where the person had the long tube headers on his/her v6 and it ALMOST sounded like a G.T. both in idle and reving it up. A nice deep throaty sound but I can't remember if he/she used a full Mac system or not. And I can't remember where I had seen it at. Anyway, thanks for the reply, I'm thinking in the near future of going with a full Mac system unless I can find the combo that makes it sound like the sound clip I heard.

Hey kscoyote, thanks for the link. Yep, it's that third clip down under Flowmaster. Mac long tube headers with off road h-pipe and Flowmaster cat-back. Damn that thing sounds good!

You seem to be on here more than just about anyone else, and seem to know your way around mustangs pretty well. In your opinion, how would an 06 V^ look with custom side pipes? I want to get the old "Laker pipe" Look, plus the better sound. Any suggestions? Thanks.
