Default Need advice for buying a Mustang

Looking to get a 1990s-2002 Mustang and have about 8-9k at the most. Ive seen a 2000 v6 coupe with 77k for $6,900 from a dealership. Good price in general?

What are the most important aspects to look into when buying? How many miles do they typically need repair and maintance?

Obviously anything used you buy you take a chance....5.0 motor can last well over 200000 miles if they were taken care of...if you have the knowledge of cars I would look at what would need to be fixed, if you can fix it, or the initial cost to have someone else do it....obviously with issues you can negotiate...Is this going to be your daily driver or a drag car? if so you might want to go with the v6 for gas purposes because as we all know v8's are awesome to drive but you will be spending more on gas obviously... definetly look at the major areas of concern (transmission, motor, brakes, etc) or have a mechanic give you an honest opinion.....1990-2002 mustangs are good solid cars and easy to tinker with

for 9k if u look on auto trader for a little while you can find a v6 99 to 2003 maybee a 04 with average mileage around 40 to 60 k and for around 6 to 7k you can find 99 to 02 with avg. mileage of 60k to 80k .. just specially now that summer is coming ...look long enough and you can get a great deal , and ye the v8 is faster but it cost 3 times as much ins. / gas / price / upkeeping ect. and for all that money you can always make the 3.8 as fast as the v8 plus save alot on gas and ins. and a v6 is good till around 200k miles so hope that helps

I just found a very local mustang for sale.

1995 gt coupe
v8 auto
150,000 miles
leather
mach sound
nice spoiler and rims

$3,400 OBO. Kbb says 3,300. Can probably talk down to 3,000 or 2,900. Any suggestions? The car looks great and the only issue is the miles. 150 seems like a ton.

I'd be wary of that. But then again, you would have an extra 5k to spend on fixing it up.

I recently (April 14, 2006) bought a 1999 Mustang v6 coupe with 53k miles for $7,250. This car is in excelent shape too. No dents, dings or scratches. Manual transmission, and some special 35th anniversary things. It has the 35th anniversary gauge cluster frame, and the previous owner also replaced the crappy rubber shift knob with the factory leather wrapped knob. the door locks are billet aluminum. Little things, but it's nice.

What i'm getting to is, that I found this ride on autotrader.com and it was within 10 miles of my home. And i searched very specific information. such as price range, mileage, engine size, distance away from me, and like 8 cars showed up.

You've got a decent amount of money to spend and a wide range of years to choose from also. My best advice to you is be very patient. A lot of mustangs were built between 1990 and 2002, and a lot are on the market at any one time. You're also talking about three very different body styles within those years. It all depends on what you want from the car (dependable daily driver, project car, show car, track car). But if you're patient, a real gem should come up locally to you. Don't be afraid to spend a little more on a car that can be proven to have been adult driven, serviced regularly, and well taken care of. Anybody can find a cheap mustang that's got a lot of miles, been driven hard, and not serviced regularly.

Sorry I meant to say 1994-2002. If this mustang I posted was driven by an adult and have it checked out, will it last me another 50k miles?

I plan on using this car going to school/work. Not really racing and will be in the garage during the winter.

If it's documented, and they used at least semi-synth, you may have to worry about accessories, which aren't cheap, but the engine/tranny from 1999 on are duty rated for 200,000 miles . . .

Get the documentation, pay somebody to check out cylinder pressure, fluids, hoses, belts, etc . ..
