2000 Mustang vs. SRT-4 (not a race i might get a srt-4)
well to be honest, im looking at srt-4's b/c (but im not 100%) they are cheaper on insurence, easy/cheap to mod low 13's maybe high 12's cheap, id get a newer car then what i have w/ less miles, i think the look good, not as good as a mustang. interior is nice, but again my car is better IMO i have seats and trim.
i LOVE my car, but idk i just think im over the v6 thing. its slow and w/o a good deal of money it will always be slow
if i keep the mustang i most likely would never get around to modding it, but i would get 3.73 gears/t-lok and n2o w/ a chip at least 2 tunes 1 n2o one granny mpg. and lower it. still thats what high 13?
my car has 71kmiles and its a 2000. im a lil nervous about it lasting, although i probally shouldnt be. ite been driven hard but not a lot, and its taken car of.
FWD is a con of the srt-4, and does anyone know about their reliabilty?
so what do u guys think. should i drop 2 cylinders?
Plus the gas milage isn't that great. Anythign you do to the car will void the warranty.
Yes, they are cheap to make fast and are highly respectable performance cars. I to at one time thought about buying one when I made a lesser salary. The reason I didn't was at the end of the day I could't get ove it was a neon.
If you think modding them is fun and cheap to make fast, just remember it is a 2.4L motor already running high 13's
Cheap, Fast = not reliable
Cheap, Realiable = not fast
Fast, Reliable = not cheap
Ofcourse almost everyon on here is goign to tell you to go with the stang, but I encourage you to also check out www.srtforums.com and see the issues they deal with. To get low 13's is cheap, to go much further is very expensive.

70 k miles on it ?? its still young and in its prime.... 99+ 3.8 mustangs can last upto 190k miles and more i do believe. i have 84k on mine and its the same year as yours and the only thing that needs revamped is my paintjob (wich everyone tells me it doesnt but i think it does).. and also I have uncle's that work for both ford and chrysler , they both agree the mustang is better all around then the Srt4 (been many debates on mustangs V.s. certain dodges lol) .. I mean ye its a quick little car but all around its rated to last for not that long ... and plus it does take a little time to get your mustang to where you want it to be and when your done you will apreciate the work and effort you put into it ! i would feel not right modding my car cheap and all in a short period of time ..

Last I checked SRT-4's ran a little cheaper than v6 mustangs. and yeah insurance will still getcha and the v6 mustang around 2000 was duty rated 200,000 miles, that 3.8 has got to be one of the nicest in ford's Line, so I wouldn't worry about it being at 71k, that's nothing. if you maintained it right, she'll be good for a while.
In my opinion, I'm a Mustang man, almost at my goal to buy a new GT, and personally I rather have a GT over an SRT-4
I have an SRT-4 sitting ikn my driveway right now, it's my housemates car, it's nice, has a lot of traction problems but when that sucker get's moving, it moves.
But I'm not a FWD kind of guy. ALl the Torque pulling and crazy front axel. It's just too wild and to me unsafe. I still enjoy RWD, the weight ratios of RWD, the balance of RWD and a solid rear axel. But that's just me.
I have lost a lot of faith in the v6, but then again mine is an old tired v6, the new ones or nice but I'm Still waiting to see Ford get out that 3.0 was it? get rid of this explorer engine. However, in the meantime, GT it is. SRT isn't very good on gas mileage either. Plus you're gonna mod a car they'll always cost enough to maintain, it's an expensive hobby. and not like you always find a pace car on the highway. I drive along the highways pretty frequent and it seems like no one wants to race.
Maybe around town with these kids and all their SRTs or EVOs or whatever they got, 4 cyl pumping out thousands of horsepower or whatever kids are doing these days.
But it's all preference really that's just my insight, good luck to yourself
So what everyone is trying to tell you(all summed up that is) stay with the stang give it time ....and youll be happy you did in the future...!! now good luck with your decision by the way im a stang guys also love the RWD

yeah RWD would be something i would deffinatly miss. i love getting the jump at the line on the hondas and other ricers. most things that want to race are fairly slow.
My 96 v6 stang just turned over 171,000 today and still pulling strong. Just have the oil changed often and keep your tires turned and you will be in good shape for another 20 years. My car looks brand new inside and out... take a look at my pics and ect at www.v6racingclub.com keep the stang they are built to last.

Two things to consider.
1) Abuse. You're going to pay for whatever the 1st owner did to the car. I would never buy a used GT unless I knew the owner for that reason.
2) the car/unibody wasn't built for all that power, and is more likely to break., Your six was built for a lot MORE power, and will be reliable for up to 350+ hp, swapping the rear end will make it reliable for 400+ hp.

It depends on really what you want. We had a Neon, my ex wanted one for the cheap price and it was new. I didn't like the thing from day one, but it was what she wanted. I always had this feeling of my butt dragging on the ground when riding in it. Overall, it was an okay car and it was not a quality type of vehicle. In fact, parts wore out rather quickly, and we traded it in before it hit 60k. I have my reservations about cheap "go fast" type of cars especially when they take a car like that, wind up the motor, and sell it. I'm not sold on the concept of it.
I think the choose is your in the end so do what you thinks best. I think you should keep the stang and drop a eight in it and drive the srt 4 as everyday car. but this is coming from someone who wants a 429 cobra jet in his 02 stang
