Hello fellow Mustang enthusiasts. Just wanted to take a sec to share my dissatisfaction w/my dealer. This is my 1st new car in 20+ years driving and I am questioning my decision. (please remember I entering this after several shots of Sambuko Black to ease my anger!!)
I had Zylon (protective coating) put on and the dealer managed to chip the door handle. They sent a paint "pro" out to fix. He sanded and repainted the door handle, which turned out great on the out-facing side. Now to the problem:
When painting, he did not tape the "inside" of the handle and did not tape the whole door. So, I got overspray on the inside of the handle & on the door & rear panel where the "ledge" is. My dealer said I could drive & they would fix. My dealer is 130 miles roundtrip, I have 5 dealers between myself & them, yet I have to spend the day at the shop waiting for them to fix it. They offered NOTHING in return for my time & trouble other than an oil change in the future that I can drive 125 miles to get.
I LOVE my car and enjoy just sitting in it, but right now I hate Ford! I am waiting for a callback from the GM to see what they are going to offer to make it worth my while to take another day off work Sorry to whine, but I had to vent somewhere~!!

I agree w/you. But as a representative of Ford they bear my brunt. I know it is the dealer and not Ford and know this could have happened w/any dealer, Ford or not.

They are not a representative of Ford at all. Dealers are independantly owned and operated businesses. They buy fom Ford, Own the cars and can do whatever they want with them in most cases.

Some dealers just suck......You found one of those, sorry about that. I always look, when I purchase a new car, at the serviceability of the dealer. Is it too far away? Will they stand by their actions? Is there someone right down the road that will cover the warranty? I know that being so far away is a PITA, but at least when this gets fixed you can go to a closer dealer.

There's one dealer within 2 miles of my house -I go to the one 20 minutes away, because I get better service.

What do the experts here think of such coatings? I always thought that they were mostly pure profit add-ons, without much real value, but I may be wrong.
Honestly, I would just get a buffer and buff out the overspray myself rather than deal with that band of morons again. They obviously don't know how to take care of a customers verhicle, they sure as hell wouldn't be putting their grubby hands back on my ride a second time.

The aftermarket coating is specific to this particular dealership. The product (Zylon) was previously used to protect the front silver part that you see on airplane engines and they just recently formulated it for auto finishes.
An update on the dealer rework: After speaking to one of the GMs, they replaced the handle from a new car for sale on the lot (I feel bad for the buyer of THAT car), buffed out the overspray, and reapplied Zylon to that spot. They are also telling me they should be able to provide me a set of painted rear window louvres at no cost, but time will tell.
