Default Mustang safety.

I am a college student and my parents are worried about my safety naturally, and right now they want to buy me a chevy impala which is a pretty cool car. But I want a ford mustang but my father says that if an impact where to happen with an suv a chevy impala can take alot more damage before it hurts the passangers.

While the mustang is made to be lighter and if you collide with a SUV or another car that your going to have a larger chance of getting injured or killed.

Wow... they just don't want you to have a sports car buddy.

In a Collision with an SUV... Whatever.

The Mustang has Crumple Zones the same as the impala does. Infact, the extra structural support of the Mustang would probably make it easier to avoid the accident to begin with.,

I would say to get the impact facts from the manufacturers to compare. I believe you can also pick them up from Edmunds online. Can't you just pull him aside and tell him that it's easier to get l$$d with a Mustang?

The Mustang has a 5 star rating.

Totaled my 01 mustang , Was hit while turing on a green arrow. I was prolly at a 70 degree angle turning left and she was going around 45 then we hit on a dead impact and it slammed me into a pole. No one in my car was injured at all,she had minor bumps. It Just tore my front clip completley off , smashed my passengers side and deployed my airbags. .......... My uncle was hit in his 03 Impala from a simalar angle. That person was going 30 and did nothing to there car but smashing there wheel, and tearing the bumper off while smashing my uncle's door in , tore 1/4 of his front clip off and now he has to have surgerory on his knee every other year.. dunno the saftey facts or ratings but i hope that helps and also hope you never have to find the facts out . If Impact safety is the main concern go with that new Vw.

I had a head on collision in my 98 V6 mustang i was going 80mph and the guy in front, about the same speed, His lane was single and I had two lanes, the only problem was that he did not know that. He switched into my lane in his pontiac gto and stayed there for quite some time, i thought he was overtaking, by the time I realized, it was too late and there was traffic aroung so i could do notihng. I broke my wrist and thats about it. i am fully recovered and drive a 2000 V6 mustang. I was lucky there was no passenger, bcuz the engine would certaily have crushed his legs as the engine was where the passenger should be. I was really lucky.
I trust my mustang.

I gave you 2 ratings for each vehicle, from the same sites. Show these to your pops and then see what he says.

Trucks don't have as much crash protection, and are more readily rolled over.

Out here in Nebraska, there's a huge public safety campaign going on because of all teh rollovers and kids getting killed thinking they're driving a car. Quick corners or emergency maneuvers in a truck are not pretty.

think about this... a Mustang is a sports car, thus its going to be designed to crash at higher speeds... it does have a 5 star rating...

me personally have never gotten into an accident while driving....i have been in one as a passenger in my 2005 jeep liberty........but there was an accident like one that was explained here where a guy was turnin on an advanced green or w.e.....and there was a lady driving a new f150 i think and a guy in a 2000 mustang...dont know if it was a gt or a v6 butt....anyways.....the f150 got messed up in the front surprisingly....but the mustang only had body work to be done.....

also my buddy in his 98 cavalier hit an 80s mustang and his car got written off while the mustang is already out driving again....and he hit it in the driver side doors soo.....

hope that helps somewhat

I have been driving for almost 4 years now in the USA and have not had any accidents thank god. I understand your parents fear but you know that we as human beings cannot control our destiny, especially when it comes to life and death issues. Every person dies when his time comes, so I don't think an impala would prevent you from getting killed or injured in case you are in an accident. My personal oppinion is to buy the mustang, it is safe dude. I drive my car every day to college which is 45 minutes away from my house and actually never thought about being into an accident. Buy the car you like the most man, because if you parents are forcing you to drive a car you don't like then you would have high risk of getting into an accident.

I agree with this statement. You'll be hating the car and not paying as much attention to the road & traffic as you should be. Whereas, if you had the Mustang, you'd be doing everything in your power to avoid getting even the smallest scratch on it.

If they want you to be completely safe, then havbe them hire a driver for you, that way it's his butt if there is an accident.
