Default V6 Mustang Ported & Polished Heads

OK im currently calling around the local engine shops for a port and polish job for my car! One of the shops told me that a port and polish wouldnt be worth doing!!!! LOL I was blown away! Im not as heavy into the engine work as the audio aspect, but i do know that more air more power (generally speaking). So he continues to tell me that installing headers, chip, and ud pulleys would give me about 40 hp. ok fine, i had him price a supercharger and came up with the vortech for $4200 installed, gaining 60-80 horse.
I told him that i WANT around 300, a respectable sleeper!! lol He continues to blow more smoke up my A** by informing me that i would need to really build the engine to get that. I think that he just doesnt want to do the p&p.
Now from what i read on the forums porting and polishing HELPS!!!!
Any input to what he's thinkin?

P & P with headers would be better than with the stock manifolds.

It's not going to add a tremendous amount of power.

Have you asked your dad yet?

oh yeah! I called him right off! He started laughing and told me to post a thread. I really really want to have some engine work done, i would like to make as much power as possible with say 4-5k! i wanna get it done one shot this year and next year new paint, rims, and some other goodies i have in mind

I really have a great vision of what my car will be! Im so excited really cant wait until its done. That car has taken its fair share of blood from me, im just waiting for payback!!!

if your talking about matt at Delk... when i talked to him he said he could do my heads if i sent him a core.....and he was saying around 1000-1300 depends on valves and such....

edb2007, you can buy a set of P & P heads for $500 as well as upper & lower intake for the same price.

go to 3.8mustang.com and take a look.

This guy doesn't know the motors, or he just plain didn't want to do it. Either way, it will only go there for the dynotune.

Tom Jr. just wanted to take the car in and get it done without having to rip it apart ourselves. Damn projects.

i went to 3.8mustang.com - The most popular v6 mustang resource on the web and the ported heads they had for my car were 425 and the website they showed didnt work and the others seemed really sketchy....
ill just stick with matt.... he is reccomwended and he has aslo built a mustang 3.8 to 700hp...
im sure he knows what will work best... and he seems like a good guy also.

Well, he's batting 1 for 3.

you can't get 40 hp from bolt-ons, particularly headers, which are worthless w/o boost.

The port & polish is the single most effective change you can make, outside of a cam swap.

You really should stick with six specialists, and someone withbench flow measurement capability.

you really want good flow at low to mid lift rather than all out for a street engine

Depends on what you want done.

Redlined Performance Mustangs, Tom Morana Racing Engines, Coy Miller, and Delk all do P&P work for the six.

All of them put out some great numbers, (although I haven't seen Miller's work on 99+ heads -he gets great numbers from pre-99 heads).

Looks like we'll be doing the old rip, ship, and strip with Matt.

This guy gave us no feeling of confidence KS. These guys are supposed to be the premier specialists in the area for rebuilding. Compared to what?

Where have you been? Sick or sabbatical?
