Default Preparations for some mods

ok, just barely ordered my gears (3.73s), rear end girdle and the speedometer adjuster. Need advice on the trottle body(size?, brand?), some headers and complete exhaust.(GT, KS??)i currently have glass pak mufflers and i know when all is said and done that it will be too loud. so im lookin for a good exhaust system headers and all for a decent price.
Im just tryin to order all the parts now! Anything else that i may be missing as far as parts are concerned? i know im gonna need a rear sway bar (workin on it), and supercharger (cant wait)!

Define "need."

Most folks want to monitor boost, it's not "necessary," but you may want to monitor it.

The big numbers you'll want to know are temp and oil pressure. The OEM guages are horrible for monitoring either one (even for monitoring the tach, for that matter), but whether or not you "need" them for a street car - dunno- individual preference/piece of mind.

If you gear up, and are in the boost at highway speeds, it's something you may well want to monitor.

Oh, you said headers!

I wouldn't scrimp on the headers. JBA & BBK make the most durable headers.

Mac makes some, but the fitment and and quality has been a sore spot for a lot of sixers.

Depending on your states air regs, you may be able to get away with the MAC longtubes . . . They're illegal in some states.

I believe you can get the guage pod for your a-pillar. I believe they come in 2, 3, or 4 pods. They are in one of your mags or one of the sites above, can't remember. BBK 1 5/8" headers would be fine. I believe the shorties are a close match for bolt on purposes. We can have the shop that did our mufflers do the rest of the exhaust, or we can do it when it is on the lift for the fuel pump. 70 or 75 for TB. First things first, when are you going to bring it over and take mine? We really need to get the heads/intake pulled for the P&P work to send to Matt. We really shouldn't call until we get them off.

You would also need: a 6-pack of beer, Dad, and pizza in case we get hungry.

You know KS, he needs it!!!!!!

Oh crap..... Kid, try to call back American Muscle. You need sub-frame connectors!!!!

It would also be a good Idea to weld and plate the torque boxes, and the axle tubes , remember to get a good ground when welding and its not a bad Idea to unplug the EEC , so no current runs through it if the ground is not so good . Unplug the Maf as well .

You'd have to do some serious surgery to run the 75mm TB. It wouldn't do any good with the OEM intake, in any case. If you run the 75 you're better off going with the sheetmetal intake.

Yeah, do all the chassis work first, and you'll have no surprises later.

Hey KS, I thought the 75's fit that intake. What should we do for a larger TB without going to sheet metal?

you have to modify the 99+ intakes for the throttle body blade to work correctly with a 70mm.

the intake in the pre-99 cars is a lot smaller.

I think the largest those take is a shafted 56 mm -maybe a 60mm -if you can find one.

Where to go to get a sheetmetal intake without breaking the bank? I think $850 is too much. What to do...... Guys?

It takes a lot of labor -the only way to get around it is search for used ones, or make your own . . .

I have the SSX SPI intake , infact its the prototype (the very first one)

They seem expensive but if you look at the V8 sheetmetal intakes its
really not that bad, and I can tell you from experience it works .

Looks like we'll be pulling the motor/tranny this weekend. The Kid can decide if he wants to go with the SSX intake or not. GT, none laying around that you want to sell?
