This kid wants to race me in a 89 305 camaro Rs... dont know much about camaro's except for the z28's and the irocs but aint the Rs a v8 that acts like a v6 ?? any info on this car like H/p n other stats ?? and should I even race him ?

A stock 305 is weak. it probably is way low on compression, and puffs black smoke out the tail pipes.

I have driven a camaro with a 305 (it has a built 383 Stroker now) and it was just a lil quicker than my v6 f150. and my friend has a 89 friebird witha 305 and it was the same. I would thimk you can take it, What are you runing in the 1/8th mile? I think the friebrid ran a 10.5

A couple things you may want to do before the race to help with your time:
1. Add a CAI instead of the K&N drop in. $70.00 at americanmuscle.com for the
metal cheap one, but it is better than the stock intake.
2. Do you have dual exhaust, or duals after the y-pipe?
3. Make sure you car is running in top shape. Which may include changing the fuel filter. When was the last time you did a tune up?
4. Take all the extra weight out of the car. And when you race, make sure your gas tank is the lowest it can possibly be.
5. Practice launching the car.

yup POS even the irocs sucked. saw a stock 91conv. take a stock 90 iroc. Those things blow.

Better make sure it's still stock.
You should be able to take him, no problem. they did 0-60 in like 8+ seconds.

not sure what i run , never really timed it or had my stang to the track but Im good with a stick (been driven manual trans. cars since i was 12.

1. looking to get a demolet Cold air induction kit, heard its better then K&N
2. I have flowmaster 40's 2 1/4'' pipes.
3. did a tune up around october but will indeed do one before we race and was looking to change fuel filter before the race was mentioned.
4. Ye im loosing the spare and jack, and i have no system to worry about either.
5. Launching I know im good on , He's driving stick also and Im way better then him, Noticed he rides the clutch alot;.
..... not planning to race untill march when it warms up here in michigan and the snowy/icy roads are gone. But I will keep you posted and updated on the car mods until the race

Went to 3rdgeneration.com (camaro website and got nothing but ears full on how mustangs suck and all i was there for was info/ stats the Rs.They was even bashing the Cobra and saying the terminators were overated and slow) but thanks for the info all, helped a bunch

we havent raced yet ... michgan roads are way to icey right now and someone could get hurt easily. We both agree to race in march when it warms up and the roads are good to go but ill keep you posted. Just ordered the UDP kit from RPM tho and will have installed when we race. plan to get my Cold air induction kit in a month as well.

ok so I found that the kid who wants to race me is gonna try and engine swap it from a 305 to a 350 ... well i know it thats a more powerful engine but what will his car be putting out after his swap ??

Depends on the 350 - they went from around 150hp at the crank to 600hp.
that changes the whole point of the race, doesn't it?
Try to find out if it's a crate engine . . . if he doesn't swap out the gears, you may be able to take him with a supercharger.
You shouldn't have any trouble finding out what he's dropping in, those chevymonkeys like to talk. when I ran the 302, I'd know everything about the mods before they even did the work & planned accordingly. It was never a surprise, which worked to my favor
