I saw an article in a mustang magazine about swapping edelbrock performer heads for 78 hp gain between peaks and 92 hp gain near 6,000 rpms. Is this possible? If so, how much hp gain did you get out of swapping heads (I'm considering getting some myself)
I didn't think Edelbrock made heads for 6's. Besides, how often do you want to take your car to 6k rpm's? That is over our safe rev limit on stockies. You can gain by purchasing the ported heads and intakes.
2004 Mustang 3.9L V6 with K&N intake, Dual Flowmaster Super 40s, Motoblue 42% Pulley, GT rear sway bar, drilled and slotted rotors, SCT tuner, 4.10s and tlock, Black FR500's 17 by 10.5 and 17 by 9.

Those are not 3.8/4.2L heads.
It's possible with a cam and improved air flow.
to make power you need 3 things air, fuel, and spark.

you can always write to 'em and let 'em know you'd be interested in a performer package for the 3.8/4.2L . ..

i dont think heads just heads even for a v8 give you 80hp more like 30hp
Depends on how you measure it -at the crank or wheels . It's entirely possible at the crank. I did better than that with my old 1968.
Previous owner had it overcammed.

if you could get 80 with a GT... then what about the V6?
it's gonna depend on the year of GT, just like it's gonna depend on the year of v6.
on a pre-99 you can get 50 hp just by swapping more modern heads. On the pre-99 GTs, swapping the heads to the PErformance improved models picks up close to 50.
But not every GT is gonna get 80hp.
With a performer package, jeez, I dunno, I'd reckon it would be possible to pick up 50 hp relatively easily for a 99+ 3.8L, -that's just getting an even hp/tq number - maybe 75 . ..
If I were designing them, that's what I'd shoot for . ..

KS have experience with Tom Morana right? What kind of realistic gains do you think I can get out of this package?
I'm probably going to make the buy in a couple weeks just waiting on a pay check. I also want to know what shipping will be, I am crossing my fingers that they don't put it on frieght.

It's gonna depend on your cam choice. I'd guess the best streetable number you're gonna get is around 250-260 hp.
But you're gonna have to give him a ring to figure it all out.
