1992 Mustang 2.3 Fox Body Mustang Question About Swapping a Motor
here's what I've got, a 92 2.3 fox body mustang with the dual plug engine. I know this motor... well sucks. I'm trying to figure out which would be better, and easier to do. swap the motor with a turbo 4 from a t-bird, or do the v-6 swap. I'm not looking to make mega hp here, I want more power, and gas milage too.
the most I'd do with the v-6 would be, the intake and exhaust, and years down the road maybe a sc motor would be nice, but around 150 to 200 hp is all I need. I know the 2.3 turbo has to spool up to get the car going, where a 6 will use less gas to achive the same speed.
DSS 331 stroker, AFR 185 heads, Performer rpm 2 intake, Accufab 75 mm race TB, 30lb injectors, 80 mm Pro-M mass air, Extreme energy cam 266.
Anderson ford power pipe the big one, Ford motor sport shorty headers, Bassani x pipe custom cat back with flows, World class T5, center force duel friction clutch.
Its cheaper if you get a new one then your gonna add on parts anyway, you can find a 92 lx for 3500

thank for your thoughts...
go to supersix motorsports. They're running a 9 second fox with a 3.8L.
It's a cheap engine, and it's durable and lightweight. It won't take a lot of dough to get it done.

check for stress fractures if you do it.
Your chassis is probebly in good shape, since it's been understressed.
If you want a project car, you're proabably better off with the 2.3L chassis.

I'd suggest the TBird turbo 4. That body style didn't come with the 3.8, it came with that thrashing 2.3. You could make it work but it'd take some work. I'm thinking in terms of ease of conversion and cost. Since power isn't your top priority, I'd go that route.

Ask me why I ran "only" a 13.54.

thanx eagle... I kind of figured that would be the easiest swap.. it's just to get the car up to speed the turbo spools and uses more gas... the v-6 wouldn't have used up so much as the four..
If your going to go with a bigger engine consider re-enforcing the frame and box in as much as you can since everything will be exposed. Who knows later on down the road you may want a Cobra Jet put in there and you would have to do this anyways. Choose an engine that will equal Goal and Budget, make sure to include about 3-$400 worth of "little things" that you may not have thought of before you swap engines, like ecu, wiring harness etc etc.
the biggest I'll go will be a six, the 8's are more than I want.. I like power, but I one that thinks that bigger isnt always better when it comes to the motor. I've spanked 5.0 with my merk, and a few chevy's and pontiac's as well... there's nothing like the look on their faces when they ask "what you got under the hood??" and you show'em a four banger..
the reason I like the six, is I know with few mods you can hit 300hp easy.. a few more ad thats 400 plus.. without nitrous too... the only gas like that my car will ever get are my farts!! yeah easy power, almost cheap too, but I'm not a fan of it.... unless I drove a honda!!!

when you swap out the K-member, go with a 96+ so that you can use the beefier blocks from the 01+.
Get a QA1 K-member or better -you'll save close to 50 lbs on the nose, which is nothing to sneeze at, and you can relocate the engine lower and farther back than stock.
They only run around $200 which isn't much more than you're gonna find in a salvage yard .. .

I know the whole electronis swap would be a pain, but will this motor get decent gas milage with a carb.?? and can the factory cruise control be hooked up?? I like the quadra jet carb, and figure it'd get good milage with the primarys, but those secondaries. would suck some gas!!

yeah, you should get decent mileage, the legality of the whole thing is going to be your problem.
the MPG, if tuned correctly, and you don't go above 600 CFM (I think that may be too big) should be better than the 94+ cars, since yours will be a great deal lighter, expecially with an aftermarket K-member.
Contact Morana or Supersix, since they have experience with the swap.
