Question 1995 V6 Mustang Fuel Filter Replacement Questions?

couple questions...

Where is the fuel filter on a 1995 v6 AT?

Is thier a upgrade that works better than the NAPA brand?
I figure if thier is it would be nice to have in there for when i install my eaton m90 motor.

How hard is it to replace the filter?

Its right before the gas tank above the rear end . Napa is fine be careful the line will have pressure in it and it takes a special tool to remove it , the Napa store should have it .

Edb, if your going to SC the motor, then you would need to drop the tank anyway to install a new larger volume fuel pump. Once it is SC'd, then fuel filter changes should be as regular as changing the oil. Just some preventative maintenance.....

As far as changing the filter, some suggest turning off the fuel pump by tripping the fuel shut-off switch in the trunk and running it until it stalls to take the pressure out of the lines..

ok go to napa buy the filter and the tool, come home turn off the pump, start it until it stalls, jack up the rear, remove filter and install new, turn on pump and go?

where do i turn off the pump?

where exactly is it?
before the gas tank? front or back?
above the rear end? like above the diff?

when i turn the pump on will it automatically pressurize the lines again? so i can just drive away, or do i have to do somthing special?

It should be on the right side right past the fuel tank

if you want to depressurize the system, you can just go under the hood, find the schrader valve on the fuel rail and depress the valve core untill no more fuel comes out. when you change the filter a little fuel will drip out of the lines, but just dont get it on yourself. when you go to restart your car, cycle your ignition a few times to get fuel into the new filter and bleed out all of the air in the system.

picked up the filter today...

if i take the pressure out of the line at the schrader valve, do i have to turn of the pump??

umm is the tool I use to take off the filter the same tool used on the fuel lines at the rail and the AC lines at the condenser?? just the smaller one.... right???

should i get better gas milage after this?

yea you'll notice better gas milage. i got mine done at the dealer for 30 bucks last saturday and i drove about 300 miles and noticed that i was getting about 1-2 mpg more, but dont forget mine is an 04 and i usually change it every 15k miles. if you havent changed urs in a while you'll notice a bigger difference.

not sure what you mean, but you dont have to disconnect the fuel pump circuit at the inertia switch if you are depressing the schrader valve to depressurize. just make sure you dont leave the key in the ON position.
the tool to remove the fuel filter is similar to the AC and fuel line tool, but its not the same one. its the smaller one you saw at napa that only has 2 sizes on it. you can also get it at sears.

Great job edb..... Glad to see it went okay. Did you run the dry gas through first?

never found "dry gas" but i ran some lucas injecter cleaner.... i always do when i change the oil.... but i havent seen dry gas.... looked allover.....

the old filter was from 95 i know it.... i poured gas out of it on the exit side onto a paper towel.. the paper towel cought some black residue... so it was time to replace that....

seems to have a little more power also.... but thats just how it always feels when i do anything to my car...
