If you read my profile you will see that I am only 17. I don't have too much racing experience (autocross and a few times around Barber Track) but I have being talking with a fellow mustang owner who goes to my school about drag racing. He has an '05 V6 that is currently stock except for a Roush rear wing and a muffler. He claims that the muffler adds hp, but if its just a muffler it doesn't add hp, just sound, right? Anyways he is going to add a Roush cold air intake and a "1 inch throttle body spacer" and says he will be cranking out around 235 hp. My car is currently stock but I will be upgrading at the end of the summer to CAI (probably Demolet thanks KS), true-dual exhaust, and MotoBlue underdrive pullies from rpm outlet. I am also getting a rear seat delete kit. What hp would that put me at and at what hp would I equal his car? Also any advice on drag racing in general?

with a muffler, CAI, and spacer there is no way he will have 235hp; more like 220 give or take a horse.
with your mods: CAI = 8hp, exhaust = 10-12hp, pullys = 10hp.
That would put you around 220 too. With rear seat in you should win being that your lighter but it will be close. With the seat out it should be a walk in the park.
When racing two things matter the most, the launch and shifting into second. Get a little wheel spin off the line but not a burnout and don't dump the clutch to fast going into second. Lastly, hit that redline, 100 rpms will count so dont shift to soon.

I thought a true dual setup would add around 20 hp. Is there some way to get more out of it (without using headers)?

there has been a lot of speculation over what exhaust adds, i think 20hp would only be atainable with boost. Also you dont want to replace the headers unless you have a supercharger, on a N/A motor shorty headers will give you between 2 and -1hp, you might lose hp with headers.

No a good true dual exhaust, can get you 20... Pickup a GT rear sway bar...pulleys, and the CAI, you should be able to take him... if you want to seal the deal, get a programmer, and take out your jack and spare tire... you weigh less anyways... with the programmer you will be able to make your car stay if 1st longer... since the v6 mustang will not redline 1st...

yeah but how much torque would you be losing with no back pressure?
I'm still sceptical, I would have to see it to believe it.

You wont lose all back pressure... just keep it 2-2.5 inches... your cats keep back pressure... with mine i go from 2.25 from the headers, no cats, then have a bend with a 2 inch pipe then back to 2.25...

The throttle body spacer won't do a darned thing.
Pick up a rear sway bar to help you get the power to the ground.
Ok, both autos.
Your main problem is that he's got an extra gear.
If you had the same trannies, you would be faster, but the extra gear makes up for his extra weight.

Put one foot on the brake, and use your other foot to bring the revs up to 1800, or so RPM (as much as you can load the transmission) when the light turns green, release the brake and plant the throttle simultaneously.

well I've never driven an auto v6, but driving my mothers 07 GT power braking didn't make any difference that I could feel.
although I did read somewhere that the new GT tranny was designed well for launches, whether thats BS or not I don't know
