The enging is just about dead on my 99 convertible. I fould a great deal on a 2003 3.8l engine. is it a big pain swapping these engine
It will be a pain in that it will take time to unbolt the tranny, remove all the accesories, lift the motor, then do that in reverse; but the new motor will fit the same as the one thats in there.

what tex said, same engine I believe, if you have a crane and the necessary tools this is resonably an easy job, don't really have to be mechanically inclined, just unbolt and rebolt, just look at some to-do's to make sure you don't want to unbolt something that may resilt in a negative affect.

right, to-do books are great. find a haynes manual for your year model and should tell you about everything you need to know.
You can pick one up at most auto parts stores.

I don't think you'd have to remove the accessories -there's a lot of space in front.
But make sure you keep the lower intake manifold off of your 1999. The IMRC on the 03 will drive you and your computer crazy.

for the 1999
The only change you need to be aware of is the IMRC issue re: CPU. Just use the one from your 1999.

The 2001 + cars are not as susceptible to losing a bunch of torque at 2.5" on exhaust for that reason . ..
1999-2001 cars had 225 ft/lbs, the 2002-2004 cars had 245 ft/lbs.

This might just be me, but if you've never done it before, label everything and take digital pictures. This will help in the reinstalltion procedures. Oh and get a bunch of zip-lok bags for nut/bolt labelling. There is nothing worse than spending hours trying to figure out which nuts/bolts go where.

well thats a better reason then what I was expecting, I figured it might have had to do with emissions or some other pointless crap. Gets on my nerves when they screw with something just for better emissions.
