Unhappy Lets Talk Prices

My Stang mechanic quoted me the following prices, (all prices includes labor):
1- $179.00 for Pulleys + $40.00 for a new belt; and
2-$375.00 for 3:73 gears + $235.00 for a generic chip or $500.00 for a custom chip.
The minimum cost for pulleys and gears is: $829.00. This seems kind of steep. Is this price accurate or am I being taken to the cleaners? Again, if someone can recommend a good Stang mechanic in New York or New Jersey, it would be greatly appreciated.

God The Need For Speed is so f***en expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have any kind of tools yourself? basic hand tools is what it takes to install pullies and belt.. you can change them yourself or find someone thats cheaper... the gear labor cost sounds right... (is that gears and install gears are usually $130-$180...)

Just remember the old saying, "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

God, How many comedians are out there. I have a 2000 Stang. How fast do I want to go--as fast as Lucielle will take me. So far, I've installed a Dual Exhaust and a Mac Cold Induction kit. Lucielle has some good power; however, I would like some extra take off power. Is it just me or does anyone else ALWAYS get challenged at a traffic light by someone trying to prove himself?

Mustangs do have that certain Je ne sais qua that brings out the primal force in other drivers.. I think its now more of the legacy than the HP... because even v6's around here get challenged..

The price for the custom chip is way off the chart, Fordchips go for $250>$275 for a chip used in non-power adder installations. The pullies & belt price is good. The gears & installation price seems a bit tall unless he's giving you a real good price on gears & T-Lok. I have a question for you, do you not have a place or the expertise to do some of this yourself? You could save yourself a good chunk of change if you could do some of the less involved jobs yourself.

Buckeye, the only way to get a good chip for a modded car is to have a pro make one during a dyno tune
