Default Dual exhaust - power stealer or giver?

A year ago i swapped out the standard 1995 V6 exhaust for a pair of 57mm freeflows. In the process the cats were removed. The dual system works and sounds great. But recently i read that it could actually mean less power? Is this true? I've got a K&N filter, and it doesn't feel like it has less power. Breathing is better. Would appreciate some help please!

How many inches is 57mm?

on the 95 cars, there isn't much that's going to affect it much either way. it doesn't flow much on either side of the heads.

does your dual have a y pipe?

57mm amounts to approx 2.25 inches.

What exactly is a Y pipe?

The new pipes & boxes practically join the stock manifolds, where the old pipe was sawn off.

So you're saying power shouldn't be affected?
Thanks

yeah, 2.25 is the right size. any larger, especially with no cats will lose you power.

you probably picked up 5-7 hp.

You may have gained a small amount of hp on the top end but I' bet you lost some low end tq. Any time you modify the exhaust it moves your power band.

I went 2.5 dual CAT-back, CAI w/ K&N and underdrive pulleys. I can't tell you exactly how much I gained or lost, but it has much better performance than prior to the mods. I also have about a 2MPG better fuel economy.

KS, what do you think all those mods gave me? I never did ask anyone.

maybe a conservative 18 peak? Depending on tune and conditions could be anywhere from 16-20 +-

The +2 wheels would sap a lot, though.

If you noticed a difference you gained at least 10%. Most people can't feel a difference below that, unless they're testing on a familiar set of circumstances repeatedly.
