Default Affordable modifications

I have a 2000 v6. I'm looking for an affordable solution to add a bit of style to it. I thought about possibly putting on valve covers, but I can't find anything for under $300, and the cheaper ones are only made for the gt or cobras. Any other possibilties of customization on a budget? or a cheaper solution to dress up my engine?

CAI, Pulleys, Sway Bar, Sub frame connectors, you can get a used programmer...

I found that cai online. It's affordable, but I'm not sure if that's always a good thing. Would installing something like that cai yeild a loss or gain in power or gas mileage?

I appoligize for my lack of knowledge, but I'm brand new to the subject.

Another silly question..
I eventually want to install a dual exhaust system, but until then i figured i'd just put on a new tip to replace the rusted stock one.
It's a turn-down tip, can I install a straight one? and what size should i get?

With a CAI, you will gain around 5-10 HP and 1-2 MPG... With exhaust if you get dual exhaust you can gain up to 25 HP... the size should stay around 2.25 inches... the tip will only make it louder, it will not add power at all...

You can get a polished aluminum CAI with a reusable filter off ebay for around $50.00 shipped.. Also braided hose sleeves will make it look much nicer without costing a fortune. Kragen, Jeggs and Summit sell them.

kmag, to me it looks like he is more concerned with the way the car looks instead of HP gains.

CAI is good for both causes, I personally like the metal gas cap and pedals.

well with a polished one you will it heat up more then a plastic one... but it is still an improvement, but if you want looks then go with a polished one

I think that dual exhaust would serve both purposes... since he will be able to have 2 SS tips... and it will make the car sound better plus giving more HP...

Yes, I am a bit more concetrated on the way it looks then the hp gains, though i do want to give it dual exhaust for the long term gain, it's just not economically possible right now. I'm pretty sure i'll go with a new cai. And like I said, probably just a new tip to give it a better look. I see the cheaper ones at autozone and such for like $15 though, is that normal for just a replacement tip, or is it because it's an inferior part?

Just remove your valve covers and paint them. you can polish & or paint /anodize your intake manifolds, throw on some wires, etc.

Paint is cheaper than buying new parts, if that's what you're after.

Yea, I painted my upper plenum and my valve covers body color. That really added a sharp look to the engine. That along with a cai and your engine will look really sharp without spending too much money.
