Default Need help on installing Cobra R front bumper on my 00 stang

I have my Cobra R front bumper for a while and well just never put it on , I still need it painted and such but i want to install it to get it out of the way for now.I have a day off coming up and would like to use that time to install the Bumper. I dont have any Expierence with taking off or installing bumpers , so the questions I have is what materials would I need ?? as in clips or screws , any special tools and what would be the difficulty to installing this for a first timer. As of now i just have the bumper ( its Urethane ) nothing else, Any tips and explanation would be very appreciated... also any links/download-able Instructions would with pics would help a bunch.. thanks

chris

mines a 98, so its a little different but it shouldnt be too much.

you will need basic hand tools (screw driver, 10mm socket, and maybe an 8mm one too)

take off the lights and take off the fender wells (plastic things that protect the car from the water/mud ur wheels kick up...stick ur head in the wheelwell and its that black piece) there should be a few screws that hold it to the bumper, nothing too hard. you might need to turn the wheels one way and then the other to make it easier. you dont need to take it off all the way, just enough to see the next step

there are 2 10mm bolts that hold it to the fenders, 2 bolts the left, 2 on the right. take these off

now, on mine the bumper has tabs that go under the headlight mounts (hard plastic thing), i had to remove this in order to free the bumper. there are 4 bolts (10mm too i think) on each side...2 that bolt to the fender and 2 that bolt to the radiator support. take these off.
also, the bumper will be attached to the headlight mount, on mine it was attached with rivets, but i believe in 99 (it may have been in 01) they changed it from rivets to screws. if its the screws, just take them off. if its the rivets, you gotta drill them out.

as far as i remember, thats all thats needed to take off the bumper. the 99+ cars might have the fog lamps attached to the bumper as well, so if they do just take them (or leave them on and unplug them, cant use them with the cobra r bumper).

the pony emblem, on mine, i had to use a special torx bit to take off the screws, i think in 99(or 01) they changed these to 8mm bolts (or smaller, cant remember).

install is the complete opposite, provided the cobra r bumper mounts the same as stock. i believe it does, i think its only the saleen ones that need all that time to fit them properly. good luck and i think i might have pictures of my bumper removal, if you need some send me a PM and let me know, ill post 'em up or something. just remember mine is a 98, not a 2000

Theres no holes in it , Just two spots where the bumper is suppose to meet by the grill on the car with two spots that looks like it needs to be drilled. But other then that no its not pre fitted im guessing

you should get a body panel pry tool. The screwdrivers can crack the plastic with too much force.

sorry, for this part, those 2 bolts (2 on each side) are gonna be on the inside of the fender. once you get the fenderwells out of the way, you can see what im talking about.
