Hey all! I just wanted to give a quick shout that I passed my Level 2 vehicle inspection today (on the way from resurecting my totalled 2000 back to drivable status)! Soooo, that means off to paint and photos soon! Thanks to all of you that helped my over the past few months! Tech info and personal support is awesome!

Congratulations on passing and nice to see one brought back to life!

How does Montana handle salvage/rebuilder vehicles? Basically what is a level 2 inspection?

Here in CT you have to have a salvage vehicle trailered to an inspection station (no wheels of the vehicle can be touching the pavement) until it passes the state inspection. You also need photos of before (the damage) and some of the rebuilding phase. Plus you need reciepts for the parts that were used and if they are major components like an engine you need the VIN of the vehicle the part came from.

Once you pass the CT inspection you can go to the DMV with the inspection form and proof of insurance and apply for permanent registration (plates). For newer vehicles you will get a rebuilt title in the mail in a few weeks. Older vehicles don't require, nor are even issued titles in CT. Don't quote me but I think it's 1981 and newer that need/get titles for any DMV transaction.

Trying to find my father's 1973 Mustang Grande he bought brand new. 3F04F126773 last known registration and title was in New Jersey, 1982.

Basically the same thing here Jay. However, I ended up driving it to the station and did not take too much static for it. Rebuild receipts, VIN number checks, about 40 questions about the rebuild (never looked at progress photos) and viola! good title in two weeks... Funny thing is, two guys, 30 minutes and they could only find one VIN #, almost cost me the whole rebuild... Wierd...
