Default Recommendations for a 1998 Mustang.

I'm looking to upgrade my performance on my mustang quite a bit in the next few months, and I've already mapped out that my mustang is going to be reaching in excess of 400+ horsepower. I read somewhere, not quite sure though, that a stock 4rw70 won't be able to handle that type of power. Are there any suggestions on an Automatic Racing-type transmission? Basically I'm using it for street use only and I want to be able to shift manually without having to worry about the transmission breaking down. Thanks in advance.

400+ hp is a tall order to make. Anyways, it can be done, it'll cost you some $$$.

The 4r70w isn't that bad of a transmission from the factory, it'll handle the manual shifting, but yes, you'll want to look into a better one for that much power, and the abuse you plan for it.

Darrin at BC Automotive in Indiana is one of the leaders in 4r70w transmissions, i suggest you contact him.

400+ HP is an easy target for me and I'm on a budget. I would like to go 500+ but that would just be worthless. I want something to get the Ricers to shut up, the Benz's to be humiliated, and any v8's to have there mouth drop.

And thanks for the advice, I'll get in touch with Darrin as quick as I can.

you cant manually shift a 4R70W what are you thinking?

but seriously, 400 hp can be done with mostly stock parts.

haha, well i'd rather not spend unnecessary amounts of money to transform it to a manual car. I looked all around my area for a manual and couldn't find one but i needed a car so i sucked it up and bought an automatic. But yeah, ^ the 400hp is very much obtainable with stock parts and that's why I said what I said in my last post.

You have the dog ring'd T5? It'll hold just fine at 600rwhp. I ran one pushing more torque than that, and it just asked for more.
