Why would it not start? The computer I have is out of a cobra if that helps. As long as it gets wired in right it should at least start my way of thinking. Now it would not run very good but good enough to get it tuned so that it would run good.

The block has a chip, the computer has a chip and sometimes the chassis (for luxury cars) has a chip that communicates through the Passive Anti-Theft System.

If they don't identify each as belonging to the right car, it will not start.

THat's why everyone will tell you to get all the parts from one car to do the swap.

I can do that to b/c if have the hole car (grand maqes) if I use the computer out of that it should work then? I was just going to use the cobra computer b/c I thought it would be better.

The grand marquis is a non-HO engine and a 2 valver. you'd be quicker with a 4.2L six.

the only way it's gonna be worth the trouble and expense is with a 4v cobra engine, or a tricked out BOSS 5.0L, Man O War block, etc.

Anything alse, and you're better off modding the six.

Correct me if im wrong but I was told that if you did the 2v to 4v head swap that the 2v computer would start it. It would run like crap but would start. I dont know if I heard correctly.

head swap doesn't involve PATS, the correct chip is still in the block.

Of the SOHC? No, you've still got PATS to deal with.

And if you're factoring in a head swap on top of it, you're proabably better off just getting a non-running 1999 Cobra, and work from there.

Ok forget the 4v 4.6! What I want to know know is will a 3v 5.4 fit (not asking about electronics) in my engine bay (95 v6) without extensive amounts of work? I know I will have to come up with my own motor mounts, and a hydroboost but what else?

Sure, the 2000Cobra R had a 5.4L. you'd need the right K-member, rear end, tranny, suspension, etc.,

Ok just for simplicity say I put in a 5.0 I know I should change the rear end, suspension, brakes, and so on but what about the wiring harness engine harness and computer for sure but what about the part in the center their is also wiring spliting off from it going to lights and what not up front?

You'll also have to change the instrument cluster. the 3.8L won't work with the 5.0L, 4.6L, or the 5.4L.
