Default V6 build up or V8 swap????

I know that a lot of people say that it is easyer to build up a v6 and be fast and that its not worth the time to swap a v8 but i can do it i just dont know if i want to.

Here it is I can eather go with a supercharged 4.2 running 10psi (i have a set up off a 93 t-bird) and maybe a performance cam, or a DOHC 4.6. Both with automatics.

I know that the 4.2 will have more power to start with but the 4.6 will be easyer to up grade later to make a lot more power than the 4.2.

Thanks for any input!

I'm looking to spend about $1000 on the engine.

4.2 I have to buy a rebuild kit the cam, lifters, springs, and machining.
4.6 I have to get an engine, motor mounts, hydroboost, and other little stuff.

tach a 0 on the end of that number and you would have a good budget.

If I could tach on another 0 I would just put a good down payment on a cobra and be done with it.

I'm sorry to say this bud, but, $1000 isn't going to get you a stroked v6 or a v8 motor. Stroker kits I've seen for 4.2 $1500 and up also that doesn't include install. A v8 will cost you around $1000+ but that's just for the engine, doesn't include everything else that needs to be adjusted to fit a v8 and all the money you have to spend on labor if you decide to get it professionally installed.

As of right now, I'd say either save your money if you really want to go one of those routes first, but, I would stick with the 6 and make it stronger and faster than a v8.

The common suggestions for upgrading the v6 is, give the air going through the car the easiest entry and exit before adding power adders

1.) Tunable Induction CAI- $102
www.tunableinduction.com

2.) Find yourself some headers and a cat-back exhaust system you like and I'd say you're off to a good start!

I think those stroker kits are forged. IF you just picked up a low mile 4.2L block, it would be significantly less (like $400)

I already have a 4.2 but it needs rebuild (ebay $550)+(boring $100) can assemble myself. And I already have a 4.6 short block with DOHC timing cover, chan, sprokets, and the other little stuff. just need DOHC heads (ebay about $500-600 for a pair in good shape). I can do all the wiring and work myself just pricing the parts.

I know electricians who won't tackle that job. $2000 is the average cost in Missouri (which is one of the cheaper places) No one in Arkansas would tackle the job, even KC shops send folks to the Ozarks to get it done.

You're also going to have to swap out the rear end, suspension, and likely your brakes and tranny.

Hope you also have the correct alternator, accessories, fuel system, and can tackle the PATS (which is where the devil is).

As for the rear end I plan on puting in a 8.8 with 3.55 and a posi, the transmission I am runing an AODE, and the front suspension I plan on up-grading along with the breaks. But thanks for sugesting the accessories I need to look in to those I have them all but I do not know if they are in the same locations as a mustangs(they are off a town car or a grand marqes .

The problem is going to be the computer. It will recognize that it's not the correct block & chasssis & vice-versa.
