Hi,
What's the best longest lasting car wax bar none? I know this is not that exciting to talk about but there are so many new waxes out there that shine so well but don't stand up to the test of time.. Just want to know what the best readily available wax is and were to get it? I have been using Turtle wax ultimate the newer one with polymers in it not the silicone.. We also have the wide vinyl racing stripes. Do we just wax over them or do we use something else on the stripes. Stripe color is black car is red fire.. Thanks.. George

Good old turtle wax does a fine job with a little elbow grease.

I get a lot of flak for this, but then again the results show for themselves. I wax my car 5 times when I clean my car. Yes, 5. I clean everything, remove the existent wax with low-abrasive rubbing compound (down to the clearcoat). I then apply VERY thin coats of wax. I wax the entire car, go get a drink/snack, come back in 20 minutes, and the car is really hazy. A couple seconds with the terry-cloth towel, and I start over again.
It takes about 2 hours, but 5 coats of non-cleaner wax on a perfect surface looks, uh, awesome.
Just be careful- it's not fun to find bugs in the 2nd layer. Do this on a warm (not hot) day, in somewhat-direct sunlight. Never try to wax a car on a HOT day. Just don't. I was stupid for trying.
For some reason, I couldn't get into the car shows with my 1990 LX, but I'd park close by. Someone asked about the awesome shine coming from my car, and I said I waxed it X times (it was some insane number like 12). Yes, I spent an entire day waxing my car. He asked how there was still paint on it. I read up, and decided to limit the insanity to 5 coats. 12 coats was a pain to remove.
I too am battling with the Wax question. I've always used and like Meguiar's for all detailing when doing it yourself.
I've waxed a ton of cars in my life, but I'm thinking I will use pro's to take care of my Mustang, and this Diamond Glass treament from Ziebarts might be the trick. I've got time to wash the car, but I'm thinking this might be the easier alternative to make sure those bird or DC rain don't tear the paint up.
Seems that everyone here enjoys economy waxes. Managing a detail shop for ~7 years, I tried them all. The ultra gloss from Turtle Wax is the best "economy" wax I've used, but I've found nothing that can compare to zaino - I love that stuff. Best shine and durability I've ever seen, hands down. Do a search on this forum for Zaino and you'll see what I'm talking about. Zaino Store

Thanks for the input so far as I'm looking for food for thought! We also have the wide vinyl factory racing stripes installed by the dealer a week ago. What's the best thing to apply to them as well? Thanks again! George

The stripes can be "waxed" over. There is nothing specifically for the stripes.

I haven't used Zaino on my new car yet, only had it 10 days and every other day has been rain. Several friends of mine here at work swear by it though. Their cars (TransAm-WS6 & 350Z) always look nice and shiny for weeks after they wax them. You know, provided it doesn't rain.

I never drive the car in the rain... BUT, one night after a midnight cruise with a local car club I got caught in a heavy downpour on the way home. I figured the car would have water spots all over it come morning. The next morning I went out to the garage to check out the "damage" and whatta ya know, there was not one spot anywhere on the car except for the back end - the car looked like it had just been washed.
Zaino rocks

Can you post a picture of your car? Mines redfire too and I've been thinking of black racing stripes but not sure how it would look. As for wax I use good ole Kit and totally HATE maguiars, worse crap ever to get off. I'm thinking of trying turle wax Ice though. No white showing if you miss a spot.
Hello! As far as the stripes go they are factory stripes that the dealer installed including the side rocker panel ones that say Mustang. I think they look sharp and add a lot to the looks of the car. Kinda make it look tough rather then pretty if you know what I mean.. I'll try and post some pictures but the sit I use don't let me post to this site.. But I found a way to! Just click on the boxes with the frog that suppose to disable them, But it don't so far..LOL!! OK so there are real links for now!! Hope they work long enough for you to see the car! I use to use Kit wax about 30 rears ago when I was a kid.. If I remember right it did work well..Thanks for reminding me. Zaino's is the only wax I use...my dad use to use something else (meguiars, I think), but decided to try Zaino's, and has been using it ever since. It shines great even on silver
