Default 2000 Mustang Vibration after clutch was replaced

Hello - The throw out bearing failed on me at 97K miles - Had a new clutch assembly installed and also had the flywheel surfaced. Now I have a vibration in the engine that peaks at 2000 rpms. This happens if you are in park, clkutch in, out, moving, etc...I change plugs and did find 3 spark plug boots dry rooted....Still, no change in vibration.

I think something was installed incorrectly when the shop completed the clutch - They are claiming that if it was out of balance, it would continue to get worse as the RPMs reached red line. Can the fly wheel be installed 180 degress out? Is this an externally balanced engine? Any other ideas?

It is a 2000 ford mustang convertible with the 4.6 liter V8 5 speed.

It sounds to me that you've got to pull the clutch out. Did someone forget or damage the pilot bearing. You know it isn't a drive line issue because it'll do it in park.

Did the shop that resurfaced the flywheel give you back the wrong one? Is the flywheel mounted square on the face of the crankshaft? You know it's a balance problem and a tear down is in your future. When the shop says that the vibration would get worse with more RPMs that is not true. Take tires out of balance, for example, you'll have a vibration at 50mph and they'll stop vibrating at 60mph. It's all about frequency of the vibration. I wish you the best, Chuck

I had an issue with the flywheel that came with my AOD to T5 conversion kit, and what it turned out to be was the flywheel they supplied, they added additional weight to the flywheel, instead of being 50oz imbalanced, it was probably more like 60oz plus and when I would rev the engine in neutral or drive it, around 3500 RPM's it would vibrate.

I wonder if they added any weight to the flywheel after they resurfaced it, using those holes in the back of the flywheel. the only way to really tell is to pull the tranny. Just a thought....

Default 2000 mustang 4.6 vibration

I have the same problem with a 2000 mustang 4.6 that I just put a clutch in. It vibrates at 1000rpms and again at 2000rpms. I have put another pressure plate in and no change. It doesn't matter if the clutch is engaged or not. I have also removed the serpentine belt and no change. I have neutalized the exhaust, trans and engine mounts and no change. Did you figure anything out with your mustang?

i had a similar problem when i put a new clutch in the throw out bearing wasnt going out as far as it should when i released the clutch so i put a spring on the clutch cable and then adjusted the clutch by pull up on the clutch pedal until i was happy.

clutch makes it all smooth for our drive. if you have any problems during transmission, then definately due to clutch problem, vibration may be from the same part
