Default can headers and pistons alone give you 250hp in a 96...

well to elaborate a little more, a guy i know has a 96 v6. He claimed to me tonight that he has 250hp, which i dont think is possible considering all he has is headers and upgraded pistons. Correct me if im wrong but a stock 96 has only 145 hp, and i seriously doubt that headers and pistons can give him 105 more hp. he wants to race me, but i dont think it would be fair (specs in sig). anyways, im just curious to see what you guys have to say.

The only way to get that is to get pitons that bump up the compression and run the thing on race gas. That would be about the only way to get that kind of power if at all. If he had a better cam yea sure but not just headers and pistons 25-30 may be. Also the v6's cam with headers so putting on little bigger ones will not give u big gains.

Well, if he upgraded pistons, he probably got it bored out as well. There's not too many people that would just put a new piston in a cylinder that has not been bored or honed..... Then the intakes and heads could have been ported too. You just don't know. There are too many points in which once you break down a motor that you have to purchase parts for.

I hope you ran more than once......

Even if he did do all that, I still don't think he'd make those kinds of gains. I just think that he *thinks* he's got a speed demon after doing two mods. Besides, 96 headers are pretty well constructed with no kinks in them, so he made a poor choice in first mods by getting headers, no gains there.

He could have gotten those gains, but with some major work. We have some guys that have gotten 250+- with rebuilds, porting, lightening drivetrain mass, split port swap, and underdrivers. It could happen, but big $$$$ and time are factors......

yeah but this other guy doesn't sound like he did put in all those big moneyz. Just sounds like he put on those mods and thought he was badass. I guess we'll never never unless he's on here.

It's like the ricers that add a turbo to thier car for like $10.00. You know, those cheap little resistors that fools your car into thinking it is cold out all the time.

yeah I've seen those on ebay selling for like 50 bux. What a joke!

And just a side note...I eat rice...really I do. Seriously...it's good. I still have a feeling no one will believe me. And I've got respect for Japanese engineering...Many of the fastest street-legal cars are Japanese and I give them mad props

But it's cool...we see the stupid looking high school retard neons, cavaliers and hondas so I feel ya.

we raced three times. idk im not so good on the launch yet, first car ive owned with a stick(ive been driving them for years though), so ive yet to get that nack for not spinning. it was kind of sad, he tried to say he lost compression and things, but his car was just slower. He would never be on the forums either, how do you say, brain the size of a walnut tactfully...
