Eh, I was in the same situation as you. Well if you have a sct flash tuner this is how mine worked. You insert the plug of the tuner into a plug down below your steering wheel where all of the wires would be and its found on the right side. Then you turn the key but not until the car starts up all the way the tuner powers up and it tells you to select a custom tune that was made and sent to you via e-mail or saved on there from a dyno or make a new one of your own. If you want to make one of your own theres a plug that comes with it so that when you hook the tuner up to your car you can then connect the tuner to a laptop and from there you can monitor all your info and tune based off of that. If you dont have any experience using a flash tuner then all i can say is have fun. I tried tuning mine myself just based off what i knew and i had my car running awful. I ended up just dropping 50$ and having justin from vmp send me a tune for my car threw an e-mail. But if you want to try, actually working the tuner is easy it gives you step by step instructions on the screen for where to go to and when to turn off and on the car and unplug ect.
Plug it in under your dash, it will turn on, scroll down to custom or 93 tune, hit select, it will tell you to turn on your key but not start the car, hit select again I believe, it will erase stock tune, and add custom tune. It will take 90 seconds or so. It will tell you to turn off your key, then it will go back to original screen. Unplug it,
and drive your butt off.
I'm assuming it would be more effective for the dyno guys to do it cuz they can really fine tune it but will doing it yourself be just as effective? I mean will you get good gains doing it yourself as oppose to taking it to a shop? I'm only asking cuz they charge up the ass for that kind of stuff and money doen't grow on trees in WI.

VMP seems like a reputable place to get a tuner. Has anyone else have experience from these guys? Are your cars tuned well?
yea dude alot of people have them here.. GT-Eater, Ks and the Shiners all refered me to justin at vmp, he is a really cool professional patient guy he put up with my millions of questions i had and he had quick n reliable service..

At that point you're going to need more of a dynotune instead of a mail order one to ensure everything is running right. Install the 93 now. You'll notice a difference in performance. The 89 won't do as much as the 93......
I was looking at the dyno graphs they have listed and there were only gains of about 8 HP over stock....seems like it isn't doing much. Is it really worth the $400?? That comes out to be about $50 per HP! What have other guy's gains been?

Getting a custom tune through the mail is fine as long as you're not changing the internals or adding forced induction that would ruin your motor if not tuned properly. Some purchase a mail order tune in order to get them to the dyno.
I know you had your car dynoed, but you have no custom tune? So where does your motor stand with A/F ratios? I believe reading somewhere that the guy you took it to for the dyno did 3 pulls and told you your car was fine. Did he advance the timing and take it to the edge to see where your cutoff would be? You may not be getting the most out of your Vortech......

Yeah. All he did was do three pulls and said my A/F was fine. I don't know the numbers for my A/F but my gauge reads optimal...not rich, not lean. He printed out a sheet with my numbers and that was it. He didn't do a thing. I also have a feeling I'm not getting the most out of my Vortech too. But the previous owner of the Vortech said he was running right around 200 HP which is where I'm at.

Here's a suggestion. Save up some cash for a tuner and dynotune, and have Justin from VMP do it on his portable dyno at the V6 showdown in Steele Alabama next March. There's a bunch of guys that go every year. This past year was our first, and we had a blast!!!!!! Of course, you'll need drinking money......
LOL
God knows I could always use a beer. Alabama huh? But that's waaay next March! there's a "Dyno Days" here in Madison too where a Ford shop does dyno tuning but that's only in the summer and it's over now I'll just save up for a bit and get a tune eventually. I just need to find another place that does it 'round here.
