Thumbs down 1986 fox body upgrades on a budget

i just bought a 1986 v6 mustang with t-tops. the car is rough and and in need of some tlc. the body is as straight as a pin with only one small rust spot, the interior how ever faded is still there, and the v6 motor runs as well as can be expected from a 1986 ford. my problem is that this will be my first ford to build. i have pretty much an unlimited supply of parts available to me, due to scrapyards and classic car part houses, but i have no idea what parts will perform best on my 3.8. although the 302 motor swap would give me the initial power increase that i am looking for, i would really like to give my 3.8 a chance to dazzle me and all of the people who rag on it for being a v6. i have seen sevral races were the v6 dominated the track, and i would like nothing more than to have that kind of power and still sport the 3.8 badge. i have been thinking of using the ford supercoupe supercharger but i have no knowledge of its compatibility, and or any damage it may cause. if anyone has any information please let me know. also i would welcome any ideas to enhance the performance of my 3.8

thanks to all who reply

Hiya and welcome. I was born just east of Oklahoma City, glad you joined us.
If you can find and get a Super Coupe blower, grab it. It makes good power, those Super Coupes could surprise many many 5.0's back then. They made 210 hp and 320 ft lbs of torque so they're no slouch. It shouldn't be a problem to put on on your car, you'd just have to upgrade the computer to accomodate it.

Just drop in a 4.2L (3.8L with factory stroker) -Yours was still carbed, right?

If so, pick up a carb conversion intake from Tom Morana Racing Engines, and you'll be set!

Arrow reply to motor swap

my 86 is actually fuel injected throttle body. soon i will be swapping the crank and heads. i also plan to swap the current fuel system from pump to intake. i still have no real idea of what bolt ons i will use to increase the power it will already have. also has anyone used one of those elec. 12v turbos i would like to know if they are worth the money. don't worry i only wanted to know for my wifes car not mine.

It'll be a lot easier to just drop in a low mile 4.2L long block. The 80s blocks aren't known for their strength.

The electric turbos are crap, you'd need a double digit hp electric motor to do anything.

If you're planning on going big on HP, as in 400+ and you're redoing the fuel system - go with a Cobra dual pump gas tank.
