Default 2001 mustang alternator upgrade!

I have a 2001 ford mustang and i am upgrading my alternator.
For installing the upgraded alternator it says not to remove the factory wiring and just add the upgraded wiring to it!
What i am confused about is.. am i suppose to hook the factory wiring and the upgraded wiring to the new alternator or just the upgraded wiring and leave the factory wiring off and strap it down somewhere outta the way?
and if so are they saying that so that just incase the old one needs to go back in the wiring will be there?
the reason i am askin is because with the number of wires presently connected to the battery its almost impossible to connect anymore, especially the 0/1 gauge wire size needed for the upgrading!

So do i need to hook the factory and upgraded wiring or just the upgraded wiring?

Yes, what they're saying is to leave the factory harness there and install the new wiring next to it. The factory harness will no longer be needed or hooked up to anything......

Click on my WWW link. I've got a picture of mine there - If you want more pics, let me know & I'll load 'em. I still need to get an overdrive pulley for the alternator, but I've got a lot going on .. .

Dom offers an overdrive pulley for your alternator if you run underdrive pulleys. Give him a call, or e-mail him.

click on the house icon under my profile pic.

an overdrive pulley is simply a pulley that is smaller than the current pulley diameter. the smaller pulley with the existing crank pulley effectively changes the ratio and allows the alternator to spin faster at any given rpm. It gives you more amps at idle and throughout the rpm range. under drive is just the opposite. you had the right idea.
