cat-back system refers to many different things. A Cat-back system can be a single exhaust system or a dual exhaust system (True Duals). True duals, too me, are much better looking and better sounding than a single exhaust or an exhaust with a connector pipe (H,Y,or X pipe).

For your 2001 v6, I'd have to recommend the same setup I've got. If you got any ma and pa shops around your area that can fabricate the pipes for your stang I'd absolutely recommend it.

What I did was buy mufflers off of ebay and just had the exhaust place fabricate the piping to fit my mufflers. I'm running true duals from the headers back and absolutely love the sound.

I bought Pypes Violator Mufflers off of ebay for $40 total. I can't find any more deals like that on those mufflers but I do recommend Brenspeed's Ebay store for the mufflers. I think they're $130 shipped for the two mufflers brand new.

Here's the mufflers

Just find the cheapest ma and pa exhaust shop around that will fabricate the pipes for you instead of order them, getting them fabricated may take a little longer but its MUCH cheaper than having the exhaust shop buy them for you.

If you want to hear what my mufflers sound like go here:
Garages > Schumi23's 1998 Ford Mustang - FQuick.com

Or if you want to hear it on a New Edge Mustang (99-04) clicky here:

Basically exhaust all depends on the person that's driving it, so it's up to you to decide, check out youtube, google video, and other sites for exhaust sounds.

Performance-wise they're unbelievable as well. Normally when an exhaust is done there is a loss of low-end torque and power, with the pypes violators, my low-end torque stayed relatively the same, I got increased throttle response, as well as more high end power.

Oh by the way, if you aren't going to put any power adders (NOS, Supercharger, or Turbocharger) on your car then keep the stock size exhaust pipes 2" (that's what they are on my car) for the duals. If you plan on going with a power adder eventually, it's going to cost you more money because the exhaust shops going to have to cut the left tail pipe and replace it with a bigger pipe 2 1/4" or 2 1/2", and until that power adder is installed you are going to have a major loss in low-end torque.

And thank you for the kind words about my car haha, the clip doesn't really do it much justice honestly though, it's much louder than it sounds!

If youre going to spend the money a true dual is the way to go. If you get a chance check out magnaflow, you can get them at a good price and they are great mufflers. They dont have a pingy sound and they will increase power, throttle response, gas mileage, and unless you increase the pipe diameter too much you should never loose low end power. I have heard a few dual systems for the v6, and these give the deepest sound I have heard. I have never heard pypes but definitley check stuff out for yourself, usually you can hear sound clips on the companys web site and other people will put stuff out there as well.

Go to mustangexhaust.com and listen to a bunch of different systems.

there isn't going to be much of a difference between power, and sound quality is subjective.

Pypes sounds great. I have 1 and i will try to get a video for you guys in the next few days. I will be installing my new 1 tomorrow night (Body shop jacked mine up BAD trying to fix it because he thought he had a lot more talent than he did, i have never seen welds this bad, ever, not even if a blind orangutan welded this system) so i hope to do a video Tuesday.
