I have a 2000 Ford Mustang Convetiable..and the paint everywhere else on the car is fine, except for on the back bumper where it has started to chip off in random spots and bubble up somewhat..i was woundering if this is just cause its 7 years old.. or if anyone elses does this.
Looks like shoddy paint work. Was that bumper ever painted?

yeah, you're gonna have to have it stripped and repainted.

Think More actually. It's a silver car and will have to be extensively blended. I would guess around 1200 for a GOOD job. While you're at it, why not add a GT bumper for your coming dual exhaust (you may not want it now, but you will, this stuff is addictive) This will be the best thing you can do, and you'll be disappointed in the long run by the look of a dual every time you see a GT.

i was likeing the estimate that KS gave me..but that was another thing i was thinking bout..was just saving up some to get a new body kit..cause i already got the duel exhaust on there..but idk if iv found a kit that im happy with for an decent amout...heres two more pics showing peeling..and also of the exhaust(il try to get a video clip of it on here sometime)
Yeah that is pretty extensive peeling. What it looks like to me is that the car was painted without the primer being properly sanded and it didn't have enough bite. heres a special primer for urethane bumper covers that makes the paint more flexible due to the flex of the urethane. Skipping this process leads to exactly this problem. As for body kits, i would just go with a GT bumper and a Chin spoiler. I have never met anyone who is completely happy with their body kit all the time, and a lot i talk to wish they'd never done it. Ford works pretty hard on styling a car, and their designers make more money on an annual basis than most of these body kit companies gross in sales. You'll also come to love the fit and finish of genuine ford oem parts.

wish new why the rear bumper would have been re-painted and none of the others..if i were to call the dealer would i be able to get the info of the previous owner to call him up..or can they not do that?..and if i were to replace it i prob would just stick with GT bumper, becasue i looked at alot of sites and i couldnt really find any kits i truly liked..but wats the damage on purchasing a GT bumper
Well when I was in a rear end collision, I think the total bill including the OEM bumper was 1500 for that work. It was most likely repainted due to a rear end collision or a dealership wanting to fix scratches and then sell it as-is. It'll look fine until it is driven a bit. Not a concern for them if they don't have to warranty it. The area on the top middle of the bumper gets scratched a lot by stuff going in/out of the trunk. The easy way to fix this is to spray some crap paint on it and be done.

Looks like it was re-painted by someone who didn't know how to paint a urethane bumper. You have to use a special filler (not normal bondo) or it will behave like that, too. My guess is they used stock bondo, and voila. (Probably had some bumps to patch - and removing all the old failing filler and prepping the old bumper will cost more than just painting a new one).
Probably better to just start with a nice GT cover that comes already primed and ready to paint.
For body kits, stick with major suppliers. CDC, Cervini, Saleen, Roush, and 3D Carbon are dependable, and make good products. DO NOT buy fiberglass bumper covers and side skirts - they are trash, and WILL break if you look at them sideways. (I know, this is bad news - all the $400 kits are in this category, though.)
A realistic price for a quality kit is thousands of dollars, not hundreds, particularly when you add in the cost of painting. And be advised, matching metallic silver clear coat paint jobs is TOUGH. You need a good body shop that really knows its stuff to get it right, and again you are talking thousands, not hundreds, of dollars for all the fitting, painting and installing of a full body kit.

well rite now im going to have to do with chipped paint..cause im still in debt for other stuff i had to fix on my car..id like to get the GT bumper..and painted..for round 500..do you think thats possible and still look good..also where are some places i could look to find GT bumper
For 500 you'll get crap work and never be happy. If you wanna do it save your money and do it right or it ill eventually cost you a repaint. for 500 you'll get what you already have, shoddy work and major disappointment.
