Question Faded paint spots on roof. Can this eventually cause rust?

There are some spots on my roof the have faded paint. It looks splotchy, like an ink blot. Should i be concerned about this? Is this a precursor to rust? I would hate to have rust on the roof, then it'd be totally junk and that would make me a very very sad person. I already have a bit of rust on the rear wheel well.

I've actually thought about my car sitting at a dealer's lot and some punk kid looking at it and just thinking "Awwww...cool!" and just destroying it on the road. I actually got sad!

If the paint's faded, then yes it's getting thin. It goes too much longer rust can happen.

i paint cars and the spots you are seeing is the clear coat is starting to delaminate from the base its a common problem with factory paints. it usually will only happen on the roof hood and top of the trunk as these are the areas most effected by direct exposure to the sun. it will need to be repainted or it will spread. i just painted a 99 gt for a couple that had the same problem on there hood. rust isnt to much of a problem as long as the base coat color coat is still on

That sounds about right because there are spots like that on my trunk too. By repainted do you mean completely new paint over the whole car or just a few coats of clear coat?
