I am a new proud owner of a 95 3.8, and i love it, the only thing is is lacks power, and im in dire need of some more, i was wondering some mods i could make that arent too expensive that would increase my engines performance, im still in highschool where cars are your rep. and also my budget is rather limited, your imput would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I know the whole highschool scene. I get it all the time for my car, I normally just use the middle finger and move on with my day.
Here's the deal, power costs money. You can put a dual exhaust system on your car for realtivley cheap. Not much gain, but it sounds louder, and can fool your friends into thinking it's faster. Cold air intakes are a favorite. Anywhere from 80-200 bucks, easy to install, and looks cool under the hood. I went for the K&N air filter and called it a day. That's about the extent of my car knowledge, so I'll let somebody else feed you information on my advanced methods.

hey bud! glad to see another 3.8 has joined the crowd!
Well cheap ways to get some respect in high school with your car huh??
Firstly Cold Air Induction, they usually cost around $100 and are relatively easy to install if you have some knowledge about vehicles.
Next is either a dual exhaust or new gearing.
Dual exhaust will get you that loud deep resonating sound that you want with a minimal gains though. Usually around $150-$300 depending on what you get.
Gearing will get you hauling @$$ off the line all the way up through the gears. Gearing will cost you $100 for parts and about $300 for labor to get installed (they are difficult to install by yourself so I don't recommend that).
Gearing will give you most bang for your buck, because the way I see it, all ricers think about is the fart can, induction, vinyl stickers, sound system, and boeing size wing. They have no idea what gearing will do for them, neither does anyone else at your school most likely. You will kick some @$$ with gears my friend, but only up to a point with a 145BHP car..... power = money, find yourself a good job and start saving
So where could i find some good gears to put in my mustang, because i want to put the good stuff in, and thanks for all the insight so far guys
Well it all depends on where/how you drive. There are two preferable choices that people have with 'stangs, 3.73's or 4.10's.
3.73's are an excellent gear ratio if you're looking for a boost of the line but still maintain some gas mileage. Also it's recommended you go with these if you travel on the highway.
4.10's will give the best boost off the line, but you get horrible gas mileage because your RPM's will be much higher than normal. This is recommended if you don't drive on the highway at all.
and Kmagn's right, I forgot to add in you must get a tuner to calibrate your speedometer which adds another $300 to the total...
and ummm....if your getting the gears done you might as well get your limited differentials replaced and get a tlok (that will give you power to two wheels instead of just one).....ayyye poor kid it keeps building up because one thing leads to another ...well just ask for these parts for christmas and then start saving for the rest...good luck!

What is your budget and what are your goals? If you can answer those 2 questions it would make things a lot easier.
if you are going to do gears might as well do the most of the rear end while you are in there and save on install. The rear end package includes gears, T-lok, and girdle; but depending on your goals depends on which parts to use.

well, im trying to save some money up as of now, in about a month ill be able to drop about 650 on some parts, there are just so many things i can do and like aowphysco said it does seem to just be adding up, hopefully this christams ill have a flowmaster exhaust kit on, and i was wondering does a throttle body help much when looking at performance, and also how good are performance chips ive heard they arnt worth the money, and thanks for all the help so far you guys are great.

Bang for buck on a pre-99 is a tough choice between Porting, head swap, used 01+ 3.8L/4.2L engine swap, or gears.
Gears are going to cost you a ton of money, and frankly a head/intake swap will get you more hp than anything else you can do short of forced induction.
for some nice easy bang for buck stuff that will save you money - pick up a set of underdriver pulleys (they're only 65-85 dollars and you'll save on gas), a drop in K&N filter, and pick up a GT Takeoff rear sway bar, and a GT Takeoff exhaust.
Then start saving for some porting or a head swap.
