Default Will I need a tuner with a new exhaust and intake? 1999 Mustang

I'm going to start off my 1999 mustang 3.8 project with an intake and an exhaust. However after these two things I would like to concentrate on my suspension and body work for a while and I don't want to have to buy a tuner right away. So what I'm wondering is will I need to buy a tuner and have it tuned if I install only an intake and exhaust?

It won't be required, but it will be suggested.

You dont need it with the 94+ until you get to 2005.... but its always a good upgrade, if you plan to do much more with the car....

I do plan on adding at least a new set of gears later so I definetely will need one later, I just don't want to get one right away if I don't have to because I want the suspension done by next spring. Will it hurt anything If I don't tune it right away or will I just not see the greatest performance jump until I do?

The performance jump won't come from the intake and exhaust, it'll come from the timing (But then you'll have to run 92+ octane).

Intake and exhaust are perfectly handled by the OEM computer -at most the difference with an 87 octane tune is going to be 5 hp or so -for 400 dollars there are better ways of getting it.

Can you adjust the timing at ALL with 87 or will it detonate prematurely?

Sure you can. especially with a dynotune - but the $/hp ratio (to most folks) isn't worth it. There's more to exploit with the stock computer than you'll get from a programmer alone.
