Pretty straighforward. Get on a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY BIG hill, something akin to Mout McKinley. Then go down it at full speed. Eventually, terminal velocity. There you go.

hp doesn't mean a whole lot when you have so many factors going.

Think about it. If you have ever watch the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series you'd know. Those trucks have 800HP and they are BARELY able to go 180 and they are extremely aerodynamic.

Your friends truck is not aerodynamic, definitely does not have 800HP, and is not BUILT to go that fast either.

But just for s#its and giggles I would ask him to provide proof of it.

The Nascar truck thing does not work. Using software I show using all the factory information/data on a stock Lightning (height, drag co.,gears tire rotation and so on) that it would take 536hp and 2.56 miles to meet 180mph. The software generates horsepower number as Gross since it is more accurate than computing RWHP.

Most of those supra's with those gigantic turbos are able to, with some road. You might as well throw any low end power out the window though with full spool around 5 grand or higher.

180 mph is a easy number to each for most cars and it only takes 325hp to reach it with the correct aerodynamics and length of travel. It is not reaching the 180mph it is the length of travel. My stock '89 mustang would reach 142mph but it took 3.2 miles to do it. I now reach 127mph in a 1/4 miles and have reached 155mph in a 1/2 mile still accelerating with ease. It is the distance that can be the limiting factor on what speed you want to reach. I am sure with a 2.5 mile area I can reach over 200mph before reaching the limit of the engine rpm.
