the funky little switches that i thought changed the air-fuel ratio.
they dont
it just changes the hue of my gauges(when they do light up) from blue to green, and change the brightness
****, i am stupid sometimes:o
You will laugh about it later. When I got my SCT programmer I plugged it up and reflashed the ECU and then I started it and it ran like s*** then died! I was like what the hell? I spent 45 min trying to figure out what was wrong then I realized I forgot to put back in the fuse for the fuel pump

Okay, well we were taking Tom Jr's rear end out a few eeeks' ago, so we jacked up the car and I got under the back to take out the rear. I looked up at his strap to his gas tank and noticed that I left a 13mm ratcheting wrench on one of his nuts. It had been locked onto it since we took it off to replace his gasket back at the end of June!!!!! Duh!!!! It wasn't even our wrench. We did the job up at Shadetree's shop in Vermont. We called him and left him a message on his answering machine that we had it, and he would have to come down to get it.
i am laughing about it now, and they are actually pretty cool, since it chnages colors, i just never realized they did, since the gauges dont light up all the time, i need a new fuse, now!

i left a wrench in the front bumper(taking out the fog light place holders), and 3 days later it fell out. scared the **** outa me too!, cause inthought my car had lost someting!
and to be honest, this goes right up there wiht when i thought my car had true duals with an h-pipe
Heya Schwaebz,
I had some gauges very similar to yours I think. Its a white face inlay that lays over your existing cluster. Mine would sometimes light up and at other times, nothing. I thought I would need a fuse too. Well, one day as I was driving the entire car filled up with white smoke and the gauges never lit up again. When I bought a new instrument cluster and was installing it I noticed a large black resistor which is wired into the white face overlay had been shorting out and eventually burned up !!! Be careful !! you may wanna check on that ASAP. I got lucky and no permanent damage was done by the burning of the resistor, would hate to see yours flare up on you if thats why your gauges are not lighting all the time.
Take Care,
Shantox

Here's another funny one, but it wasn't a stupid mistake. When Tom Jr first got his license, I gave him my '89 Cougar. Well, my girlfriend at the time and I went to see a comedian at the local club, and his big routine was about him "shaving the peen." We ended up buying a yellow bumper sticker that said "I like to shave the peen" in big letters on it and put it on the front bumper of his dark blue car. He drove around for 3 days until he noticed it. Sorry Jr.......
sound uber urgent to me, and its cool when they actually lightup.
and is this a do it urself sorta job?
Yes it is a very simple process and can be completed in half an hour with just a phillips head screwdriver and a T-10 or 15 torx (if I remember correctly). Your best bet is just to replace the gauge overlay completed, they are extremely cheap, here is a link ....
Replacing them now when there is obviously a problem instead of waiting till it does smoke itself would be most beneficial . The overlays should come with an instruction sheet also.
Take Care,
Shantox

Reason: Typo ... as usual =)
Oops ! Forgot to add that you could also look into an actual replacement cluster. That is a more expensive option but definitely worth it in the long run. These are the set I bought after my overlay burned up ...
I don't know if your year model is carried by them, but should give you an idea. Surely if you looked online someone carries em for almost any year Mustang.
