Well you might want to have some engine work done before you throw in a 100 shot of Nitrous..
As for small gains, start with the exhaust and CAI, maybe some underdrive pulleys and a tuner.. then depending where you want to go from there you could get gears, tlok, better suspension and the list goes on..start small and work your way up because it will get expensive

I agree, 100 shot might be a bit much, thankfully the type of system you would want for it would be easy to change from 50 to 75 to 100, or whatever you want.
If youre looking for inexpensive horsepower, there really isnt such thing.
Allthough there is easy horse power. Just depends how far you want to dive into the engine. Bigger throttle body, low restriction air filter, after market intake manifolds, and even maybe a custom ground cam would really wake the engine up. 1.6 rockers are pretty easy to install and give you some more lift. New rear end gears maybe. If you buy an aftermarket intake/throttle body, you can then move on and install bigger fuel injectors and get a custom burnt prom (thats your cars brain).. honestly the list goes on and on.
When I had my cougar which was a 3.8 I was going to do a remote mount turbo setup but never got around to it. Remote mount means that instead of a muffler, you have a turbo, granted turbos are generally suppose to be as close to the engine as possible to help get rid of lag, but you can easily put a turbo where the muffler is, run the tubes, run the oil line, and voila.
75 shot of nitrous is just fine, make sure its a wet shot though...
Other things you may want to look into would be cold air intake, headers, full exhaust, tuner, gears, t-lok, under drive pulleys, and intake spacer.
headers won't do much for her unless she's going to be going with a power adder right away...everything else looks good
