Question 1995 mustang rear seat delete question

I'm interested in knowing if a 50 pound dog will be supported by a seat delete kit. After calling around, I find that nobody can tell me what it is made from. I know I can brace it, however, if it is made of cardboard with carpet on it, I realize I may as well make one myself.

You would have to check with the seller. Some are made of only 1/4" plywood that will bow under pressure. I used 3/8" plywood on my '86 knowing that I would be throwing drag slicks and floor jack in it for the track and didn't want it to bow or break.

Make your own. START with a cardboard template you use to determine the fit, trimming until its just right.

Use the cardboard to trace your plywood. 3/8" is a good size (1/2" is just too thick and heavy). Keep in mind, though, WHY you are deleting the back seat...

Weight savings go away the stronger you make the panels.

If all you do is delete 40 pounds of seat, then add 40 pounds of plywood and carpet, you've gone in a big circle.

I saw one done with black plexiglass that looked cool and was lightweight but strong.

50 pound dog....

He will be able to flex even 3/8" plywood, y'know.

Depends on how picky you are about looks, too.

I decided to go with making my own. I know I can make it look good. Glad to read other people have already done that. Thanks for your replies.
