Correct me if I'm wrong, but the other reason for the H pipe is the firing order of GT's. 2 Cylinders fire off almost at the same time on the same side. I think the 1st and 4th, and 6th and 8th? Without a midpipe, the exhaust would only come out of one pipe, the h pipe equalizes it, crossing the exhaust flow to both sides, making it sound smoother.
