I have some questions about Limited-Slip Differentials (T-Lok). See, I am about to embark on a decision making between the two types: Detroit Locker or Detroit Truetrac...

Which of the two out-performs the other? Which engages smoothly? Which lasts longer? Which works the best? Which gives your rear-end more traction-lock?

I'd like to know, besides the price, which is worth spending over $400 on?

Thanks.

I'm installing FRPP 4:10 gears with the LSD that I am deciding on.

THANKS TOM!!!!

The Detroit Locker is the toughest center section you can get. It outperforms the others easily but it gets rather noisy sometimes. It's when you make a turn and the gears disengage, then when you straighten you'll hear them clunk back together. The Tru Trac is a gear type center and it's smooth, and does well in a street car, just not ideal for drag racing or sticky tires.
Overall, the Detroit Locker would get my vote, I'd take a noisy but stronger performer that's almost bullet proof over a smoother but weaker unit. By no means is the Tru Trac weak, it's just no where near as strong as the Locker.

Yeah, I'm on the street a lot...but what happens if I decided to head to the drag strip on those crazy nights?

I'm not going to get the same performance from the TrueTrac than the Locker, I know that. But are there any warnings to this if it becomes a routine?

Sweeeeeeeet.

Do they really cost four big heads (Benjamin Franklin)?

So which brand? Are FRPPs good? Eaton? Tractech, Inc.?

On the street? Same performance. TT smoother. Both last on the street. Either will achieve the desired results, namely driving both of the rear wheels. Had a DT and liked it. But that was in a barbaric 66 KGT. In a civilized ride like yours, I would opt for the TT.

Either the Detroit true-trac or the Auburn with a girdle can handle up to 400 RWhp. So the only time you have to worry about either of which not being strong enough is if you have a fully built motor running 11 psi. Stock motor on 11 psi will get you around 290 RWhp.

You're welcome....... The trutrac is pretty tough and would get my approval if I didn't have the Ford Racing one.
