So when should the engine be running? Only when you put it in through the brake booster and then turn it off and let it sit? Should it be running when you put it in the crank case or the fuel tank?

Turn the engine on only when your ready to put it in the booster line. Turn it off when you have put enough in and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Start it up and let it smoke for a bit Make sure the engine is off when you add it into the crankcase and the gas tank. What I would do is put what you need in the crank and the tank and then do the booster line, and you wanna make sure to change your oil shortly after you do this, I wouldn't go more than 50-100 miles with it in the crankcase cause all the deposits break loose and the sooner you change it the less chance they have to plug the filter or something else. I was amazed at some of the stuff that came out of the oil pan

read alot of different threads on seafoam i know it works but like some i had concerns about how long to leave it in the crankcase so i wrote the folks that make it and here is a copy of what they wrote back. I havent changed oil yet since i did the treatment shortly after my oil change. close to a thousand miles still in the crankcase working great.
seafoam writes::::::::

Thank you for using Sea Foam. If people on the net compare me with B-12, I am totally at a loss for words. We are entirely different. B-12 is a Chemical blend containing harsh chemicals which when over-used can damage fuel system parts that are plastic, rubber, neoprene, etc.

Sea Foam is a 100% pure petroleum produce that is totally safe in ANY engine, and can be used ANY where in that engine to solve a lot of cleanliness problems.

In the oil, it totally depends on why you are using it.

For Preventive maintenance, we suggest 1/2 can about 100 miles before you change oil and filter, then the other 1/2 can into the new oil as an additive. Because it is 100% pure petroleum, you can leave it in.

REMEMBER - the rule of thumb - when oil is dirty - change it. The addition of a cleaner may probably tend to make the oil dirtier - quicker - so keep an eye on it.

Hope this answers your concerns,

Angry seafoaming concern!

i have a concern with seafoam.......i have not had a problem with it but only used it the first time ever in my car about a week ago....

i talked to my auto teacher about it who i trust very much with information that i recieve from him..

he explained to me that the only kind of cleaner that really isnt a "scam" in his words or that will not potentially hurt ur engine is combustion chamber cleaner. he said that even though it may clean ur engine, even if you see alot of gunk and sediment in ur oil when u change it that not all of it will come out ever. because even though you change your oil not 100% of your old oil comes out. So his thoughts on that are that no matter what you will constrict oil flow in the screen between ur oil pan and engine no matter what. especially if you car has been abused by the person who owned it before you such as not changing the oil regularily. but you will have to take off your oil pan and clean out that screen after you seafoam or clean the inside of you engine (especially if you add it to your oil) after a while because of clogging and blockage of oil flow.

not saying that he is 100% right but he knows more then anyone else i know or have heard of about cars. i trust him more then any mechanic out there. so i am not seafoaming my car again.

other then combustion chamber cleaner which gives better performance and fuel economy.

just thought i would put this concern out there from a professionals point of view. because clearly if you ask the makers of the product there not going to tell you that downfalls or potential hazards of it right?

take into consideration what you want just trying to help.

been working on engines for 30 plus years myself yes your teacher is correct you never get everthing out. Sea Foam
true the site wont tell you the down side, if any, however they dont want to be sued for making false claims the product does what it says and i have yet to find any one that has anything negative to say about the product. i will admit i was not sure about it, but my car did have a problem that i thought would lead to major engine work, used seafoam and the problem went away, if your afraid of clogging an oil pump pickup then you have major problems that even seafoam cant help and there arent enough oil changes to help you. you said you used the product did you have a problem before and id you notice a difference afterwards? just wandering i own 4 mustangs and will continue to use it in each and every one its real and it works.

I heard someone say that it caused his engine to backfire and blew up the motor. I am not sure he knows what he is talking about. I have used it several times and have had no problems.

iv been reading this thread for while..debating weather to do it or not and deceided i would..so went to walmart today to get some and lady said i needed to be 18 to buy it..i was like ur kidding right. so we went on for couple mins then she let me get it..so hoping to do it either tues or wed.

so should i use the whole can n just split it in thirds? then does it matter what order i put them in? after adding to brake booster line, do i shut engine off then reconnect the hose or connect hose then shut off engine?
