Here's a question - How would seafoam work in an engine that hasn't been started for about 14 years? ( I'm a bit leary about using any cleanout in older engines.)
I am considering using sea foam after reading this post and all its replys but i still say im hessitant to use anything not recomended by ford. At the same time results speak for themselves.
I noticed somtimes when its cold my stang loves to try and take off on me going from P to D and it has 45000m on it so I know theres some build up. But I know the previous owner took super good care of it .... inside looks new still and its a 2003 and other than that throttle issue it runs like a dream.
And to the guy who shot himself doing the seafoam damn that was a lot of crap comming outta ur tailpipe. It actually had me concerned as it looks like it was oil ..... and oil shouldnt come out your tailpipe lol.
so i was wondering something.. im gonna seafoam my car tomorrow and i was just wondering what happens with the stuff when you put it in the brake booster and gas? i know you have to change your oil ater you do it.. but is that all im gonna have to worry about?
I'm sorry, but there's no way in HE-double-hockey-sticks I'm ever putting anything in my brake system but brake fluid!
_Nevermind, you mean drawing through the booster line on the intake -Disregard above statement.

Well I did about 1/3 to my oil and somewhere around 1/3 to my brake intake hose. So .....
first time I did it I just turned the engine on and let it sit for like 2 min and disconnect the brake hose and let it suck it out from a plastic cup (seriously dont try it from the can lulz). It wanted to die out but didnt. So I turned it off and put another 1/3 into the crank case (oil). So I walk away from the car and back into the house for about 15 min.
At this point ive still got just under half (ok so it wasent really 1/3 into the vacuum hose but whatever) of seafoam left. So I start up the engine with no problems. However ..... no freakin smoke ...... WTF!?!? So im like ok ill drive it around the block till it gets up to operating temps. So I do and bring it back to the house. I pop the hood and add another .... half a cup more seafoam to the brake booster line. This time though I had the engine running when I pulled off the line and the engine immediatly died. However I just cranked it back up and ran rough. Also this time I did it straight out of the can ....... pretty messy.
So anywho let it sit for another 10min, came back out, and started her up. wtf still no smoke .... so I take it for another ride .... runs pretty good. I think the only difference is easier crank when starting it up. And of course a clean engine is a happy one.
Long story short I think my engine was pretty damn clean already. Its a 2003 V6 with 45k miles on it. Last owner appearntly took damn good care of it.
I don't know a ton about cars... I was just wondering if this stuff can hurt anything? As long as I put 1/3 in the gas tank, 1/3 to the oil, and 1/3 to the brake booster line thing, then change the oil after about 50-100 miles, it won't hurt anything right?

well I did my seafoam (above) and nothing happened to me and I waited about 50+ miles to change mine and nothing happened ..... however
I noticed my oil preasure was steadily rising probally due to clogged oil filter. After oil change this last weekend all is fine.

seafoamed and added to the oil after the oil change so long as you do your normal maintenace you can leave it in i use it to top up before a change and after i change i add my 1/3,the stuff works great, those that use it know it , come to the dark side its better here lol, but really it works like everyone says just be careful on the brake booster line many of us sh*t a brick when it dies and wont recrank cause it sucked it in too fast but with time it will restart. and it will run and sound tons better

more than likely iffen the engine hasnt been turned over for that long, there's gonna be some sticky valves and the rings could be seized on the pistons. i would suggest draining a qt. of oil from crank, get 2 oil filters, change the oil filter, add a qt of seafoam to crank and gas tank. when you get it started, dont rev it. that could easily snap a piston ring if one is seized. let the motor do and seafoam do the work. i had a '73 chevelle that sat outside for a very long time. i didnt know about seafoam and put 2 qts. of tranny fluid in the crank, after draing 2 qts. took a bit to get it started, smoked like crazy and spitted and sputtered for about 20 minutes. the smoke started clearing andthe engine started runnin smother, so i slowly worked up the r.p.m's. i drove it home, not breaking any speed records, pulled the motor to drop in a regal, drained the oil, changed the filter again. got 50,000 miles on the car b4 sellin it. the only thing i did extra was rebuild the carb as it was severley gummed and ed and parts were rotted.
