I always wanted a Mustang and I just bought a '97 coupe. I only have 2 problems with it. The power seat does not move front to back. Does the whole track assembly need to be replaced or can parts be bought for it? The other issue is that the hinge roller for the door does not keep it open. I know that I can get a hinge roller and pin. I like to do my own work and would love to get to know my Mustang better. Are these 2 jobs (power seat track assembly and and door hinge roller) good do-it yourself jobs? Any advice would be appreciated. I look forward to using this forum and giving advice as I get more expereince.
I can only help with the power seat question. i have a 94 mustang gt and my power seat is done as well. i went to ford and they dont even make or sell the power seat replacement tracks anymore. the only place i have been able to find them are on eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices however they are all used and could wear out at any moment. the same situation with junk yards, Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market used parts but im sure you can find the track there. as far as it being a difficult job, im sure you can do it. you have 4 nuts to remove that remove your seat, then there should be some type of plug in on the bottom of it for the power seat track. hope this helps you out man.

TO: Ricers- 1) there's no replacement for displacement 2) my lug nuts require more torque than your engine makes 3) a light car doesn't excuse a weak engine 4) a bottle of pepsi has more liters than your car. Eating rice builds muscle!
Same story on my power seat as well. I have found a place to order the motor only as mine works but occasionally burns the fuse from drawing to many amps.
Hey just saw your post. I did hinge pins on a 90 mustang. The roller is on a pin on my car and is held by the two pieces of wound steel on the hinge. The roller may not be the problem, on my car it was a missing metal piece on the body side.
Check that first...
on the seat . check the fuses to make sure they are not burnt out. And if you buy a seat track off ebay , make sure its for your year 94-98 , as 99+ will not bolt up right to your seat.

The power seat fuse is located in your power dist. box inside the engine compartment. It is the 30 amp fuse that is labeled "convertible top." I believe it is the only 30 amp inside the pdi box......

why would it be labeled "convertible top"? are those bastards at ford really that intent to throw us off????

I ended up buying a new track assembly from mustangsunlimited.com. They had the best price. When I installed it I had the same problem, the seat would go up (so I knew it wasn't the fuse) and down but not forward. It ended up being the 4-way switch on the front of the seat. The switch would not allow the seat to go forward. I replaced it and reinstalled the old track assembly and it works fine. Mustangsunlimited took the new track back.
As far as the door roller hinges, I haven't figured out a way to replace them because you can't pop the roller hinge out because the hinge flange covers the pin. I would have to cut away some of the hinge bracket to be able to remove the roller hinge. I'm not ready to do that yet. Any suggestions?
i recently purchased a 94 mustang and have some of the same issues with the power seat. mine will raise and lower but seems to be binding when trying to move forward or back. the motor seems to want to move but won't. does anybody have similar issues or can anybody recommend whether i should look for a new track assembly or whether it might be salvagable with a teardown and greasing? this is my first mustang so i'm a little new to them.
Yet another power seat switch/motor/track problem!
The horizontal motion (fwd/back) of the power seat in my '96 Cobra is inoperative, although the vertical motion is fine. I found it interesting that one member here found the Seat Switch to be the problem, rather than a motor on the track assembly.
This morning, while suddenly in a tizzy over this problem, which I've managed to avoid for a year, I discovered that the negative (-) motion of the Lumbar Switch is also inop. The positive (+), additive, motion works fine. So I can add lumbar support to the max, but not release it.
The seat switch harness has 3 connectors, one of which appears to lead to/from the Lumbar Switch. From all this, is there a clear choice of which part to replace first? My logic is telling me that one motor controls two functions: "fwd/back seat" and "add lumbar support", so I should replace the entire track assembly. My logic has also been dead-wrong on more occasions than I care to remember, however! On the other hand, it may be .....
Please weigh in here, guys, with your own analysis. I need your help.
Where did Chuck97 find a replacement 4-way switch for the power seat? I've seen the entire assemblies for sale but I don't recall just seeing the switch.
I see only two motors under the seat, and assume they control horizontal and vertical seat height, so the lumbar thingy has me baffled.
I'd also like to understand how the lumbar control works. Is it a motor rotating a cam-shaped device that displaces more or less seat packing, depending on which way the switch is activated?
