Default How can I get better gas mileage?

I have a 2001 mustang v6. It's mostly stock with the exception of a CAI. I need to know what mods I can buy to increase the gas mileage. I am going on a road trip this summer and we are looking to take cars with good gas mileage. I would really like to take mine and I wanna know what I can do to increase the mileage. What can I do?

Make sure it is tuned up and change your fuel filter. You should be good to go from there. I got around 28mpg on my last trip......

Oh and shinerstang what size rims do you have on yours. I have 17 inch rims on mine. I'm sure thats not goona help the mileage.

Go on ebay and buy all those little things that are supposed to help..

Like the thing that goes on your fuel line...


Go to walmart and stock up on that octane booster they sell, and be EASY on the gas...

5th gear should never run you over 2,200RPM
i usually stay at 1800rpm in 5th when i save gas

Octane booster will help my mileage? and where is a good place to get underdrive pulleys?

dude, don't get octane boost. It is also not good for your car. I have 16" rims on mine. I'm currently in my "weightloss" mode for the track. I weighed all of my tire/rim combos that I have in order to save rotational mass. Here is what I've found:

17" rims with tires 47#
16" stock rims on my '01 39#
16" ASA rims on my '94 45.4#

I was trying to determine which rims would be better for the track, but ended up buying 15" drag radials to go on black steel rims. Not sure of the weight yet, but I'll know once the tires arrive.

i would see foam ur engine, to loosen up any gunk, then have the oil changed, do some engine house keeping

how does one change a fuel filter, i have done everything else aowpsycho said, and my mileage is around tha same, maybe i could squeeze a but more ?

I was gonna write it up myself but this will be more detailed than I would

remember the best way to sustain good mileage is your foot off the gas...thats the best answer..

oh and I've had this name since I was a little kid..I used to play a game online called Empire Earth when I was I think 13, and (AoW) was my clan name which stood for Art of War and PsYcHo was the name given to me by the clan...it just kinda stuck after that..
