not to bring up an old thread, but its sounds alot like stuts to me. the powersteering pump wouldn't really be working when u are going straight, and struts will make a hissing sound when they are leaking. Just a thought.

My 1996 mustang has been creaking like crazy lately (the infamous wood floor creaking sound) - get in the car you hear the creak, hit the breaks, hear the creak, the car rocks at all, you hear the creak. I just had new breaks put on, and I think the tire pressure is low (they should all be around 25 PSI right now, which, from what I understand is too low so I need to get air soon) so I'm hoping its an easy fix. I might even need new shocks because I pressed down on the bumper, and the car bounced good once, then 3 smaller bounces. Any suggestions on anything? Anyone?

When you turn the wheel sitting still or when your going over bumpy terrain it sounds like an old creaking wooden ship, right? The tie rod ends are probably creaking and they don't have grease fittings, so-o-o-oh, you got "Autozone" or "O'Reilly" and pick up one of those small hand held grease guns making sure it's the one with a needle type syringe included. You turn your wheels all the way to the right, poke that needle into the rubber boot on the tie rod end shoot some in there. Do it on the front & back of both sides (just turn the wheels so you can get at it). That's the problem I had and that's what solved it.
