Default PCM Module Problems 1985 Mustang Lx Convertible

Hi,
Recently I bought myself a 1985 Mustang Lx Convertible. When I brought it home on the trailer I realized that it RPM's are super low when Idleing and I have to keep pressure on the gas to shift gears. Its an automatic transmission. Heres my problem. Everyone keeps telling me that its the PCM Module as its a different engine than the computer. Ive called about 4 ford dealerships looking if they can give me the info about what the engine came out of. I have the serial number. No help. Ive tried looking it up myself to no avail. If anyone could help that would be awesome.
Its a V-6 3.8ltr engine serial......... RF-E4ZE-9425-BA

All I can give you out of that is it is an 84 block. Is it a carbed car?

The car does have a carburetor. About an hour ago I found out by looking at a serial deciphering website, that it came from a 1984 mustang.
LOL.... I went to Kragen they then told me not to buy the pcm module unless i was super sure thats what it was. So I left with a mustang chiltons and car air freshner. AHH! This is what I get for buying it for 700 dollars and not test driving it before bringing it home.
Thank you for the help......tommorrows another day in looking it up and trying to read the charts the books give me. Hope its just a vaccum hose at this point.

It makes it easier to figure out the problem on a carbed car. Check for fuel and spark first. If you have both, then check timing and compression. Make sure your car is taking in air through the carb. If the timing chain is shot, there will be no draw or suction into the carb.
