Default Help! Dead MUSTANG. Starter works, but won't start... read more

ok so after practice i went to pull the car around front, i was in the staff parking section, and i turned it on and opened the hood, i opened the throttle a couple times, nothing different really, so i got in and moved it around front and it stahls, the only thing i could thing of was mabe the throttle body sensor, so i decided to unhood the battery to mabe restart the computer. i put it back on a few minutes later and it started, so i dropped the hood and it stahled (the cable was loose i guess ) so i had my dad come up and he cleaned the terminal off real good with his terminal tool. then tightened it down. the car would not start. its rolling over and the starter sounds the same. he checked the oil and said that was really low. so we got a couple quarts of oil. we put one in and let it sit. we tried starting it and nothing, so i went into school and hopped on a computer and got drewp's response and we talked about it and what else could be wrong ( my dad was a mechanic for 20 some years) then he said he had to get home (he plows for the state and can get called in at 11:00, it was around 7:00 and snowing) i told him i was going to try it again, it started, i knew whatever i was i had to keep on the gas (above 1,250rpm) i got it home and right in front of the house it shut off, i coasted into the driveway and there it sits.

Did you try starting your car again with the fuel pump in the back of your car? (Trunk)

Is this an electrical shutoff or is the motor stalling?

My daughters 2001 Mustang sometimes will try to crank like that an not start. The ford mechanic told me he thought the relay that reads the chip in the key wasnt working properly, and as a anti theft thing, it shuts off the fuel pump . She could sometimes take the key out an flip it over an it will start.

i think it's the fuel pump. I seems to be more mechanical then electrical at this point.

Next time it stalls, try to see if you have fuel rail pressure by pushing in on the shrader valve on you fuel rail. It looks like a tire stem. If you have good pressure there, it's usually not the pump.
