Hey everybody. I have a 2004 6 cylinder Mustang (automatic) and was wondering about how much horsepower i could gain for under $3000. I just want to know the potential that the car has to be somewhat powerful. My parents wouldnt let me get a GT (mainly my mom). My dad knows a good bit about cars and says that i could make my V6 just as powerful as a V8 and my mom would never know haha. I just dont think its possible but i'm pretty ignorant about engines as of right now so any suggestions/comments would be helpful. Thanks.
If you have 3k on hand I would save a little more and get a SC or Turbo and work around it. It will certainly beat up on some GT's that are mildly bolt-on but if they are FI, forget about it.

Don't forget there is some prep work involved to handle that power. Not to mention labor on install and tuning. If you want a new supercharger then plan on it being at least a $5k project.

Yeah go with a supercharger. Try to buy and all included kit with everything (bigger fuel injectors, fuel pump etc) so alls you have to do is bolt it on and not have to go around buying other parts.
Procharger has a system for 94-03 Mustang V-6's so it might also work with an 04(Not sure)
For under $3000 you could do a great nitrous system including bottle warmer, remote bottle turn on, custom purge kit, custom arming switches and get it custom dynotuned. I could see this all being under $3000 and professionally installed and tuned.
If you do get the supercharger get a intercooled system. Better insurance for those hot summer days of cruising and getting on it every now and then.

With a good blower(plus intercooled), it should put you up around 290hp with just 7psi.
No sir. If you are referring to the intercooled Procharger setup, they push out 11psi to make just under 300rwhp. Vortech's can make the same numbers but they don't come with an intercooler (although some people have made them intercooled) but you'll still need a decent amount of boost to make just shy of 300rwhp.
Dmiller- Keep saving your money until you can afford to buy a supercharger or turbo plus the supporting mods to safely run either of them.

Lol, my bad. I was referring to 290 at the crank. Should of said that

The six has plenty of potential. I have several mods on my 04 and it's pretty close to a GT.
Are those all the mods you have listed? If so you are not near a GT...
You have maybe 220hp, maybe. If you were talking about a 94-98 GT then yes but you are not anywhere near a 99-04 GT. You would need some port/polish work to be close to a GT of your model.

I'm thinking more like 240-245 hp. A GT is what 260 hp? So I would say that It's getting close. I'm not counting the gears, but they help.
