It's never cheaper to pay someone to do anything since you're paying for their labor on top of the inflated cost of the parts(most mechanics mark up the cost of parts form the parts store). I would say a 3 on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the easiest. Go to you're local parts store for a new gasket or get it online anywhere. I find that cork gaskets suck, so I would suggest getting a fiber or rubber gasket if possible.

My suggestion would be is to send it to someone who has the tools and knowledge. You need to have a lift and the proper tools to do the job. Where is it leaking from? Front, back, sides?

I haven't done an oil pan gasket on a 3.8L but I don't think an engine lift is necessary, just a jack and piece of wood under it like on a 5.0L should do the job after unbolting the engine mounts and maybe the mid exhaust pipe. It may be necessary if there isn't enough clearance though. Hopefully someone who has done this comments on this for you.
