got new head gasket, pistons, rods and still runs hot!
i am lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey bro don't worry I'm having the same problem with a '94 GT. I want to say timing is the last possible thing, but I do not have the equipment to do it and no shop will do it with a motor that runs hot. Makes no damn sense to me. If I get an answer before you do, Rest assured I will forward it your way

I am not real familiar with the 3.8's, but I just got my "HOT" problem solved. The guys on here were telling me to check the radiator fan motor. Apparently it is supposed to have 2 speeds. Mine was more or less fried and the "LOW" speed didn't work. I put in the new one, new temp switch and god knows everything else and she stays nice and cool now. Don't know if the 3.8 has a dual stage radiator fan motor, but if it does, might want to check that out.

Did you bleed the system? There could be air in it. Fords are know for bad fans too. It should come on as soon as you turn on the AC. Check it out......
shinerstang has a good point. some cars are just hard to get all the air out of the cooling system. this will inevitably cavitate the waterpump and overheat. other problems can be oiling, oil pressure, maybe even an exhaust restriction. newly rebuilt motors will also naturally run a little hot. check for a lean condition on fuel/air.

I had the same problem with my old 97 V6 a few years ago. Turned on the AC to high/max cool and popped the hood. Found the radiator fan wasn't working. Bought a new one for $86.00 at Pep Boys, only place in town that had one in stock, and replaced it. Total replacement time was about 90 minutes.
If you do it yourself, the bolt holding the fan is REVERSE threaded. Righty-loosey, lefty-tighty
