Default brake lit above the reverse light isnt working

i have a 03 mustang and both brake lights that are above the reverse light are not workin but the reverse light is. we tried changing the bulbs but that didnt help we checked the wires and they are fine. what could be causing this what can i do to fix it?

Check the switch by your brake pedal. The harness may have become unplugged or the switch is bad.

the center mount is working. how do i know if the switch is still plugged in but how do i know if its bad?

here's the million $$$$$ question.... do you have voltage at the socket? If so, is there a ground fault? Check you're grounds to the body and check you're bulbs closer. They may not look burnt, but if the filliments are touching they may be causing a short. If you're 3rd brake light works in unison with you're break peddle, then the switch is doing it's job. I'm not sure if the 3rd light is on it's own circuit, but if it is, check fuses.
